Everything is racism with the left when such films don't get all the nominations possible.

Selma is a Best Picture nominee....not good enough.

The Oscar nominations... at heart, it’s like the nominations for Homecoming King and Queen. Oh the injustice!

And honestly, anything with Oprah Winfrey in it should be deep-sixed!

Selma?

Wasn’t she the chick on Scooby Doo who was always losing her glasses?

I noticed that 8 movies were nominated for Best Picture. Isn’t it usually 5?

American Sniper getting several and Selma getting one nomination. The Libs will hate that.

The direction in Selma, at least from the about 10% of the film I've seen from promos, looks like a very plain vanilla piece of direction.

Best Director is not supposed to be about displaying competence, but excellence.

Not that the work it honors is always excellent (it isn't), but it is meant for auteurs who take chances that work.

Well, industry people will tell you that the odds of it winning when its director wasn't nominated is close to nil.

That said, there are complaints every year when female directors don't get nominated, so nothing new here.

There are always five nominations and people act like 5 is a variable number that can mean 6 or 7. As I've seen none of these movies (haven't checked the list, but unless the director of Captain America or Guardians of the Galaxy were nominated, I haven't seen the movies), I'll refrain from further debate over who did a better job.

Obama got a Peace Prize for being part black.

So why shouldn’t all the Academy Awards go to blacks?

It’s really just common sense.

I was glad to see the Polish movie “Ida” nominated for Best Foreign Picture. Very good movie, and it’s on Netflix.

Why was Clint Eastwood snubbed for Best Director?

I can assure you THAT was political.

“Selma” is not a major motion picture. It is a piece of agitation propaganda.

It’s not fair. If a person has black skin, he must be celebrated for everything he does...even more so if it involves slavery, the “black experience”, etc. /S

Perhaps they need to shut down Hollywood blvd and scream that black artists matter.....yeah, that will work!

I give the Oscars 5 years before they are politically corrected out of existence. I mean, how dare we call anyone the “best” at anything? And separate recognition for males and females? This kind of thing is anathema to the Hollywood liberals, right?

Let’s just follow the stupid youth sports model: Everyone Gets A Trophy!

The stories earlier were saying the snubbing had to do with Orah being toxic (on points, race not a factor) and that cascading down to any and every thing associated with her.

Spielberg was toxic for a long time too, snubbed left and right for some exceptional work. But I don’t recall antisemitism being blamed for it.

You know, I went back and reread that second para a couple times. I think many of us are missing the point being made.

It’s not that it was racist to exclude her. It’s that because she wasn’t included, she won’t get opportunities for other work. And denying her those opportunities is what’s racist.

IOW the case is made that she should have been included for affirmative action reasons. Theres no real case made that she deserved inclusion on the merit of the work, just that non inclusion will hurt the future prospects of one of the few female Black directors.
