The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) is proposing strict new dietary guidelines for day cares that would prohibit them from frying food that is served to children.
Child care providers would also be formally required to provide children with water upon request, though they would face restrictions on how much apple juice and orange juice they serve.
The proposed nutrition standards are intended to promote the "health and wellness of children" at day cares that participate in government-funded meal programs, the USDA's Food and Nutrition Service said Wednesday.
One of the more notable provisions would restrict day cares from frying food on site and discourage them from serving pre-packaged fried food, such as chicken fingers, from the grocery store.
"While facilities would not be permitted under this proposed rule to prepare foods on site by frying them," the USDA wrote in the Federal Register, "store-bought, catered, or pre-fried foods can still contribute large amounts of calories and saturated fat to a meal. Therefore, facilities are encouraged to limit all fried and pre-fried foods to no more than once per week."
Another provision of the rules spells out that day cares must supply drinking water for children.
"Daycare homes must make drinking water available to children, as nutritionally appropriate, throughout the day, including at meal times," the USDA wrote.
The USDA's meal standards also include other proposed changes, such as allowing tofu as a meat alternative.
The public has 90 days to comment.
Did some research...The graham cracker was invented in 1829 by Simon Graham in Suffield CT. It was originally a healthy whole-grained snack, with little or no sweetening. Thus, a traditional graham cracker is healthy and tasty.
You're also correct. What's called a graham cracker today is often poisoned with HFCS and other additives. So it's a matter of read the label. As far as the milk fat is concerned, that's tough. Growing children need some fat. Milk as it's sold today is so laden with antibiotics that it's bad news. The antibiotics settle in the milk fat, so if that's avoided, most of the antibiotic poisons are also avoided. I'd go with no-fat chocolate milk with all healthy ingredients for kids.
These guidelines are suggesting tofu. That's weird, because there are many question how healthy soybeans are.
I'm a nutrition Nazi, sticking to a "pure foods" diet. It's getting easier to find edible foods, but one has to be constantly vigilant about ingredients. I've done this for over five years now, and never felt better.
I beg to differ.
My John Jacob Rye is entirely cholesterol and sodium free.
And it tastes like butterscotch, roaring campfire, and long-ago summer kisses.
i’m pretty sure Britain’s royalty didn’t even have the ability to decree what the peasants were allowed to eat
See the documentary "Fat Head" that was produced to rebut the deceptive "Super-size Me". Conventional wisdom about diet is the exact opposite of the truth and the government is perpetuating the problem.
Thanks for the ping!
First they starve school children now they want to starve preschool children. Makes for weak and compliant citizens to rule.
And will these First Witch rules apply to our watching our GranKids?
They'd better not.
(Oh, who am I kidding?)
I’ll answer them, verbally, in Serviceman’s French.
Grania, I’ve learned the hard way what I can and CAN’T eat. SOY is not something I can eat, I’m Hypothyroid and it is not allowed in my diet.

FAT in large quantities is a NO. Raw veggies and some fruits the high fiber ones, dense meats that need a lot of chewing are also a NO. Even my beloved corn, green beans, sweet potatoes, are a NO. I digest the green part of the bean, not the legume inside. Those are another NO eat item.
What little fat I eat is in the form of butter and in my eggs. And I don’t give a flip about the Internist and his cholesterol testing. I eat what I can digest best.
Why do they not ask when they tell you to take fish oil, if you are allergic to sea food? I am also slightly dairy intolerant and have to limit the amount I take in or I bloat up real bad. Already have level 8 AB pain. There is NO cure for GP.
These are the 2 most prescribed motility drugs. Both are bad. Our FDA won’t approve Domperidone. And you can readily see why. If you get a script for it it is from a FOREIGN country. Europe’s’ MHRA restricted April 2014 and our Gastros are still Scripting for it. NO ONE CHECKS if it has been restricted or banned in other countries.

Whiskey? that would scald my GI track. I love good Scotch, but can no longer drink it. Wine or a beer is about all I can handle. They are full of SUGAR that go on the hips.
Of course it is, it just has to be the right kind of fat like in BUTTER, eggs.
That dumb food pyramid should be turned upside down. With grains being the least ate.

You'd think with all of the knowledge that comes from DNA diets would be tailored to what's best for an individual. I believe that with well-planned eating, drugs (legal and illegal) just get in the way of a body's ability to stay healthy and self-heal when necessary.
Thanks for all of those references. I read as much as I can about nutrition, impacts of drugs, and natural health.
I’ve had to learn to read about the drugs and nutrition. The only thing that works on the spinal pain, I can’t take due to the GP. For the GP pain I’ve learned that a 4 oz glass of white wine mixed with Mango Power Aid helps dull the AB pain down about 7 pm. Might not work all night, but better than nothing.
People don’t realize how much of your immune system is in your gut, and that antibiotics don’t know the difference between the good and bad. They think that the tiny amount of Probiotics in yogurt will help. Try 30-60 BILLION multi strain ones and you will know the difference. Same goes for digestive enzymes. My CERON 20 has 4, my natural one many more. Just not strong enough, so I take both.
I have a couple of books to suggest. Amazon has them.

My mom recently had her gallbladder removed. Low fat diet her whole life (blows out the gallbladder), plus she was taking OP and BP meds for a long time.
People just don’t understand that the medical and food industries are slowly poisoning them.
Primary docs are always so “friendly”; the food propaganda gets stuck in people minds and you can’t get it out. It’s really disgusting.
I have to come back and check out your links; they look very interesting.
I love how they say this drug has no side effects or low ones, very few react to. ANY drug comes with side effects, even some vits and mins or herbs.
Did your doc ask you when he told you to take fish oil, if you were allergic to sea food? Crap turned me inside out just as eating a small amount of sea food does. Fresh water CAT or Bass are OK to eat.
5 different cholesterol meds later and I refuse to even try another one. The very fact that a lot of people are allergic to sea food, there should be a Black Box warning on it. Just like peanuts warnings.
FDA has warnings on ALL the OP drugs.
WARNINGS OP DRUGS Kidney failure deaths, A Fib, Jaw Degeneration and A Typical Femur Fractures
Reclast has the highest warning.

They list a lot of side effects...
but the actually miss the big point - intentionally.
The big point is that all drugs are viewed by your body as a foreign toxin that it has to expel. This process of getting rid of the foreign toxin overworks the internal organs, and over time destroys them.
Basically, every medicine “warning label” should say: this medicine will slowly kill you over a period of years.
Now, perhaps all the billions of dollars that go into “research” for the last 100 years - has focused on ways to repair damaged organs ?
Well, it has not.
For example, there is the Whipple Procedure and its variants.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pancreaticoduodenectomy
From the article at http://en.wikipedia.org:
“This procedure was originally described by Alessandro Codivilla, an Italian surgeon, in 1898. The first resection for a periampullary cancer was performed by the German surgeon Walther Kausch in 1909 and described by Kausch in 1912. It is often called Whipple’s procedure or the Whipple procedure, after the American surgeon Allen Whipple who devised an improved version of the surgery in 1935[2] and subsequently came up with multiple refinements to his technique.”
If you look at article at the link, you’ll see a picture of what this “ingenius” “life-saving” procedure accomplishes: they hack out a fair amount of the patient’s malfuntioning organs.
They still do modern variants of this procedure today.
So, after 100 years of “progress”, basically it comes down to medieval-type surgery. Something not working right ? Get the sawbones to chop it off.
People don’t understand the utterly simple technique our financial power elites have used over the centuries to exert their “control”.
For medical research, suppose you want to have it grind to halt. You don’t want billions of “sheeple” living and thriving on earth, you want to “manage” the sheeple population count.
Instead of opposing medical research - take on the job yourself ! Become the cornerstone of it - you become the financial backer of all researchers and research.
Then you can “slow walk” the research. Can’t rush these things now, WE are experts. We (the elites) get to decide, most importantly, what is researched - what the research goals are. Short term fix of symptoms, or actually cure the root of the problem ? Slow walking the research, of course, would mean that we simply never study the real root of problems.
The elites say: We know what we’re doing, sheeple can’t possibly understand. Sheeple - it’s our medical research that saves your life ! Give - donate - to our tax-exempt foundations. Buy our medical care. We want to have a monopoly on medical care. We’ll have laws written so our/your government forces you to pay us. Voila ! 100 years, and no “real” progress is made. But the elites’ medical industry is making more profit than ever, and they have controlled everything about health and medical care for much of the last century, so they can even actually create problems which fit the “solutions” they stumble across.
Many of the “ingenious” “formulas” they come up with for “medicines” ?
Nothing more than derivations from what occurs in nature - that frequently traditional medicine has known for centuries. (One can only surmise that they obviously seek out traditional medicines and study them to determine their active ingredients - and then they have the audacity to patent their derivations, as if they “invented” them). Example: statins that “control cholesterol levels” - merely the active ingredient in Red Yeast Rice.
Interesting that they’re totally restricting foods fried on site but only suggesting that store-bought fried foods not be served. I wonder if this is an incremental step.
