SANFORD --
A Seminole County judge has set $5,000 bond for George Zimmerman, who was arrested Friday night in Lake Mary.
The 31-year-old was booked around 9:45 p.m. for aggravated assault -- domestic violence with a weapon. According to Don West, Zimmerman's attorney, his client threw a wine bottle during the incident.
Zimmerman is prohibited from contacting the victim, returning to her home or entering Volusia County. He must surrender all firearms by Tuesday, but will not have to wear a GPS monitoring device.
He is due back in court at 1:30 p.m. Feb. 17 in front of Judge Donna McIntosh.
This was Zimmerman's third arrest in recent years.

Trust me, if he had had a gun on him that would be made very clear by the media.
Wow. whodathunkit? I’m a violent crime victim. I’ve had a wine bottle thrown at me before!
I didn’t call the cops tho. Just said “Relax! There’s more Barolo on the counter. Drink your wine and chill!” The incident ended peacefully.
On 1/5/15 the girl was pulled over in a traffic stop. She claimed that she was just assaulted by Zimmerman (the wine bottle).
After 4 days of thinking about it, the PD decided to go arrest Zimmerman.
His best play would have been to get away from that area altogether and get up into Montana or Idaho and have a quiet low-key life doing something out there.
I don’t understand why people think being of some racial background they automatically “have a temper” or like it’s somehow expected that it’s alomst a justification for them going off on stuff essentially whites would have no basis to claim as a reason in their european background.
I mean, I have German, Russian and Italian in my background and I don’t use that as a reason why my temper is or isn’t what it is. Besides everyone will say in the end the people they come from are a hot blooded people, fiery, passionate, etc etc.
I think people live up to the stereotype, if anything. It has nothing to do with genetics. I think many like the idea of blaming their heritage as the reason they have a hot temper as a way to excuse behavior they couldn’t get away with normally. And have everyone else accomodate them because “you know that’s how those people are”.
Being passionate is not bad of itself. It depends on just how one uses that passion. I knew people who put great passion into being a jerk. It just made them a worse jerk.
Agreed, but note the context of the convesation I made my remarks in.
Temperaments probably do have a heritable aspect. But I’ve seen jerks excuse putting passion into being jerks because oh, they are Hispanic or whatever. No, it just means they have used what could be a great resource to be destructive.
Also, don’t confuse drive/motivation, ambition, or energy, with bad temperment.
I think many people wwould LIKE to believe they are the same thing to exucse their personal bad behavior/moods. If it’s out of your control you’re not responsible. People like not being responsible for the bad stuff they do.
Or as has been said in another context, pollution is a resource out of place. We don’t want landfills or the air to be full of mercury, but mercury is mighty useful when it is present where we need it.
Soul pollution is the same way. It is resources misused.
He’d be smart to find a small town in the middle of nowhere and simply be quiet for a year or two.
There are places that would accept him. Who knows, he might find a woman who would simply be kind to him.
I live in the middle of “the big nothing”, it has some advantages. Sanity is one.
Those said to have Latin tempers are generally Caucasian-as in “white” and whose ancestors were descended in large part from the Romans-as in “Latin”, and who speak Latin based languages-Spain, Italy and France.
It refers to those of that ancestry in general, probably because the French, Italian and Spanish do have a reputation for bloody deeds ever since the Romans came there-a few thousand years. I rather doubt it has to do with genetics, but rather to three ethnic groups that learned the value of a scary temper when it comes to vengeance and intimidation-as in organized crime like the mafia, really bloody revolutions and the Spanish liking for enslaving and inquisitions.
None of that is an excuse for anything, and I’ve never heard of a Latin temper defense, which would be laughable-but emotions are usually close to the surface for those of Latin ancestry, for whatever reason.
My ancestors came to Mexico from Spain in the 16th century-MrT5’s ancestors came to Quebec, Canada shortly thereafter. His temper was just as Latin as mine-just as bad, just that he was a Frog. I’ve used my Latin temper to advantage to protect my husband or kid from someone, or to keep myself from being screwed by someone who thought I’m “just a woman”-and I won’t apologize for it.
Ever noticed that of the three races of humans it is Caucasians who go nuclear the most, Latin or not? Blacks and Asians are slower to anger-Asians seem more prone to quietly take vengeance and keep quiet about it, and Blacks are more inclined to do the same, but later, and not quietly-and liberals have taught them to claim victimhood as a reason for their bad deeds...
I caught some flack on this but was proven right. George Zimmerman was not a purely innocent victim. Too many people on both sides rushed to judgment on this one.
I think it is heritable, to some extent-but how much of that is an ethnic thing I have no idea. Some years ago, I decided my Latin temper was an excellent weapon if I chose the battle carefully-took awhile to get that much emotional control, but it works...
Like the bible says, be angry yet without sin.
God knows everything about how and when is the right way and the right time. Avoiding gratuitous damage is a lot of it.
Cuban Leaf isn’t not blaming the chosen women but observing Zimmerman’s lack of discrimination in choosing the women he does. Since his trial, he keeps being attracted to women who are obviously very wrong for him. And he for them.
Having said that, right now I doubt any woman is right for him. He needs to get his own head straight after all he’s been thru, then worry about girlfriends. I guarantee I’d need years of therapy if I had faced public contempt, threats, and murder charges for having merely defended myself.
In a confrontation, if my conscience screams “don’t” I will do just about whatever it takes to shut off the countdown-but if not, I let it happen-once I see the red, there is no stopping. I know if I haven’t done the right thing, Dios me castigara.
I think you are right-rushing to judgment is becoming all too common, too.
I was shouted down by some of the guys I work with for saying it seemed to me that Martin and Zimmerman managed to be in the wrong place at the wrong time and got into a confrontation further fueled by too much testosterone.
I said of course Zimmerman acted in self defense, and committed no crime-but the circumstances of that confrontation made it certain one or the other was going to die-I still think that...
if he continues to act so stupidly and foolishly, its his life he's screwed, and I just don't care anymore..
Was she trying to get out of a traffic ticket???? It doesn't really say why she was pulled over. I'd like to know. Did they suspect her of DUI?
This guy is a target and I wouldn't be surprised if he isn't getting set up. He had never been in trouble with the law until the incident with Martin. The only trouble was defending a black homeless man at a town meeting who he said was picked on by the police.
I agree he should leave the area, but his parents live in the area and after he has been thoroughly demonized for almost having his head bashed in by a black teenage thug, I doubt he has too many friends left, besides his parents.
