Romney was the last man standing because his paid attack dogs underhandedly destroyed every decent conservative running.
And so what if he was the 'last man standing'? He was never qualified to represent the vast majority of center-right voters to begin with. His dismal record in office is proof of that.
Whose standard bearer was he, really? Truly think about it.
Why Romney ever called himself a Republican to begin with, is a total mystery. Everything he did in office was indistinguishable from what any liberal Democrat would have done.
Plus Romney’s money kept out serious candidates in both primaries, that won’t be the case this time, for better or for worse, there are some big boys involved in this next race.
With Romney’s 20 year history of losing elections, broken by a single under 50% victory that resulted in no chance for reelection, he is not the political giant that some of his people think he is.
I think the two people that you're looking for have left this thread. I can't imagine that there were very many people on this website who were more vocally opposed to Romney than I was in 2012.
Here's my only point. I agree the logic that leads people to stay home and not vote when we inevitably nominate someone like Romney. Personally, I wouldn't go that far, but I can empathize.
My observations are concerned with the primaries. Before I worry about who the absolute best, most conservative candidate is in the field, my first priority is to ensure we don't get stuck with a choice between Hillary Clinton and Jeb Bush or Mitt Romeny.

so what makes anyone think he can discern which way the world is going?
