Rep. Mia Love, R-Utah, shocked some conservatives Tuesday when the first vote she cast as a new congresswoman was to keep Rep. John Boehner, R-Ohio, as House speaker.
Twitter erupted, with several people claiming to be in her district saying they had lost faith in their previous hero, and that she had shown her true self. Remember, this was not a vote on legislation, it was a vote for the speaker of the House.
Love, in an email to the Washington Examiner, provided some insight into why she chose to keep Boehner as GOP leader.
There were no qualified or notable campaigns for speaker within the Republican Party other than John Boehner, Love said. Casting a vote for a candidate who has not actively campaigned and does not have the support to be speaker is an indirect vote for Nancy Pelosi, and I will not vote for Nancy Pelosi.
Love also reminded voters that she is playing the long game when it comes to fighting for conservative principles.
There will be a time and a place for me to stand as a lone voice of dissension, but the vote for the speaker, is not that place, Love said. For me to be an effective congressman over the next two years it is important for me to be on the side of the elected speaker.
I don’t know. On FR, I wasn’t seeing people throw their names in until Friday evening or Saturday. So, while there was distress with Boehner, it just didn’t seem like there was a good organization behind it.
If there was something going on that we didn’t hear about, and even some of our newly elected reps voted for him... boot them out. My son is fuming. I told him to meet with our rep when he is back.
I dunno what she is thinking....she will win no friends there. They are all DEMOCRATS....
I'm thinking this woman is very, very naive...............
Her pay level says I expect her to STUDY her lesson, which in this case she didn’t do, and now she is now trying to walk-back a serious error, making it worse the more she says.
Remember, this was not a vote on legislation, it was a vote for the speaker of the House.
She makes a valid argument, give her a break fer cryin out loud...........
There are currently 246 Republicans in Congress and yet she was singled out by the Washington Examiner since she is a newbie.....Were they trying to send a message to her? I personally don't know....
Why didn't they leave her alone and take the time to ask MY Congresswoman Candice Miller why SHE voted for Boehner after all she's been in office since 2002.
But then again, she was appointed to serve as Chairman of the Committee on House Administration (CHA), and in the 114th Congress she continues to serve as the only woman chair of a committee in the U.S. House of Representatives.
After giving this much thought, there is too much being made of this nomination and it's the MSM that has created this artificial angst that has once again driven a wedge within the Republican party........
Mia Love is a black, female conservative from Utah so it's only natural that the MSM take her down before she can even make her presence known in Washington..........
Take my comments for what they're worth, I'm not going to argue with you...........
Maybe not, but there should have been.
Gowdy and Chaffetz are bigtime disappointments to me.
I spoke to a newly elected OK Rep, the day before the vote, who pretty much told me the same thing. That “we can do more if we’re able to *work* with the Speaker”...blah, blah....
Sounds to me like they all received their advance talking points memo...and maybe a little CRomnibus trimmings, on the side. Hmmmm.
I wasn’t using his name as a present day candidate, but to show where I learned this Civics lesson.
CBC & voted for Boner..her Facebook comments are all negative, people are pissed! & calling her out for the obvious talking point of “choice between Boehner/Pelosi”.
She’s already lost alot of support & it’s her first vote! ha
That is the one silver lining in this for me as Huelskamp is my rep and I'm proud he did the right thing. I'm so disappointed in all the other KS reps though and they deserve to be slammed as I will join in. The republican establishment spent a lot of money trying to primary Huelskamp but the good people of his district would not allow them to pull that off.

That's just crazy.
Once again, some on here operate without full knowledge - they needed more than 29 votes to oust bonehead because many of the Demoncrats went to that funeral in NY - so, they needed more than 29 - please, people, do your homework before spewing things that arent factually correct.
And that's what I replied to.....
Take care............
Bullsh!t. 28 voted against Boehner. 29 were needed to oust him.
****************
All Boehner neede to win was 50% +1 of the total votes cast for a named candidate.
There were 408 votes cast thus he needed 205 votes. He got 216 votes total.
Wow. I don't know if she's ignorant, lying, or both. In any case, she's one of the bigger disappointments amongst the defectors.
She was bribed.
She saw how much money can be made if you ‘pretend’ to hold out. Boehner offers her some loot and she changes her vote.
Interesting...Can you flesh that out for us?
Because as an inbound freshman congresswoman she is now one of the least powerful people in the country and if she wants her time in congress to mean anything certain pipers must be paid. It’s an ugly system in DC, one that is specifically designed to crush rebellion.
Well, I might be wrong, but from what I understand, that statement is also misinformed, or a lie. The Speaker has to get the majority of the house, hence 218 votes. There are only 188 Democrats in the house. For Pelosi to become Speaker 31 Republicans would have had to vote for her. There was simply no way Pelosi was going to become Speaker. So, is she a liar, or just misinformed?
I sit corrected. Thanks for the link.
