WOULD WE HAVE WON WWII WITH TODAY'S PC CULTURE? 1/4/2015 0 Comments
Watching the media and liberals go crazy over the "Torture Report" makes me wonder what would have happened if they lived and reported during World War II. First, since FDR was President, they may have been fine since it was one of their own making the rules.
Anyone who has researched WWII knows that part of the war meant civilians were going to be killed. In order to win a war you cannot handcuff your military on rules of engagement. In Europe we had strategic bombings in the countries of our allies to attack German positions, civilians died. In one of the most aggressive actions later in the war the Allies firebombed and destroyed the city of Dresden, again killing thousands. In Japan, to bring the war to a finish, we dropped two Atom Bombs on major cities killing tens of thousands of people. This directly led to the surrender of Japan. Would today's media and liberal celebrated, or would they have condemned us as a country and demanded Truman and others be brought up on charges for murder?
People will argue that times were different , and indeed they were. It will also be pointed out that these were Nations that declared war on the U.S. not terror organizations. These are valid points. However, in many of the places we are battling ISIS, Al Qaeda and the Taliban, the areas where we can attack have civilians that provide support and aid to the organizations. Certainly there are many in the area that do not. However, in WWII there were many civilians that undoubtedly disagreed with there leaders that lived in the cities that were bombed. The decision has to be made do we want to win and decapitate the enemy or not? If we are not committed to winning the battle, we simply put our men and women in the services in danger for no good reason. Limiting the rules of engagement put these brave soldiers in harms way. Part of defeating the enemy is to gain information from those that are captured. These parties did not sign onto the Geneva convention as they are not governments. They will use any and all forms of cruelty and death to murder Americans. While we use enhanced interrogation methods, these people also kept in accommodations that provide them more luxuries then many had where they lived.
There is an irony of the media and liberal gnashing of teeth over the "Torture Report" and calling for indictments on those involved. The liberals and media stay strangely silent on the use of drone strikes to target terrorists and even American's deemed as threats in foreign countries. The strikes have killed many innocent civilians. Somehow I find it incredible that "torture" that leaves no sustained injuries and was done to a small select group of individuals, is a crime. However killing these same sort of individuals, along with civilians is just fine? That is the paradox of today's liberal establishment and mainstream media.
Hopefully, in time, politics first for these people would be replaced by America first.
You blogged correctly, on Free Republic. You did not excerpt. Well done.
You should look back at our deadly riots of the WWII era.
Forgot the USAF ?
The thing about WWII was that the entire country was behind the military. They all or very nearly all, worked together for the cause.
It probably helped that we and the Soviet Union were on the same side. Even people such as Lindberg who had opposed the war did whatever they could for the victory.
America was a different world back then. For instance the Empire State Building was completed ahead of time and under budget. Japanese Ace Saburo Sakai flew a captured B-17 and mentions in his biography how impressed he was with the workmanship.
Truly a different world.
And good reason in WWII to suspend freedom because of the riots. They also suspended freedoms during our Civil War. I can understand why rights get suspended during wartime. They thankfully had the sense as Congress and the POTUS to suspend freedoms for the sake of public safety. And it is constitutional what they did in both wars.
Not only was FDR a liberal Democrat, he and his high administration were Communists. And we entered WWII riding to the rescue of Communist Russia.
Because Communist Russia was our ally; they, our own Communists, and their fellow travelers ceased their subversive activities in America (but not their spying). This was a massive boost to our war effort as it allowed unity of effort, the last time in our history.
So one answer to your question is: "Yes". Because we have the same liberal news media. And they would have received the same "instructions" from their masters to support the rescue of Communist Russia.
I do not believe the situations are quite that blatant. But they are close.
Did not exist in WW II.
We must understand and have empathy for our enemies-Hugh Rodham
Eisenhower and Churchill agonized over a possible 160,000 French civilians being killed in massive Allied bombing of France in the days before D-Day.
Churchill faced the problem of getting along with post war France with so many civilians killed. After consulting with Allied French military leaders and resistance members, the decision was made for all out bombing after the French told them if it killed twice that many civilians, it would be worth it to be rid of the German occupation forces. The rest is history.
If that isn’t photoshopped, then that image, alone, answers the question with the certainty that most of us already know.
You mean the Army, the Air force didn’t exist until after WWII.
Aviation was a part of the Army, just like Armor, or it’s naval elements.
Whatever they did, there was massive and deadly rioting in the United States during the war, worse than we have seen recently.
1. Libs would urge “restraint” and “negotiation” as a reaction to the attacks on Pearl Harbor. They would resist any calls to declare war on Japan, instead urging blue-ribbon commissions to study “why they hate us so much.”
2. Libs would squeal to the LoN about the “unfair and disproportionate level of attack” on the Normandy Coast on D-Day.
3. Libs would oppose outright defeat of the Axis powers, instead calling for “a responsible end to the war.”
You are correct the media is only a symptom. I was alive in WWII and the public would not have tolerated today’s media. In school our teachers NEVER cast any doubt upon our ultimate victory. The dominant philosophy today consists of treason, sedition and favoring the criminal element of our society. This treacherous philosophy is led by a chattering class that firmly believes they are correct and that our once great way of life was a sham. Treasonous and seditious pronouncements are eagerly absorbed by a trivial, sensation seeking, and ignorant populace. The popular culture is intensely devoted to a bestial belief in eating, drinking, drugging, copulating, evacuating the bowels, snoring and free tickets to “The Games.” We are clearly dying as a nation and indeed as a Civilization. Look what was elected President of our once great nation.
Actually, the media was often the enemy during WW2 as well. Think of the Patton slapping incident. We nearly lost the use of a fine commander for something completely reasonable.
The media didn’t back WW2 until “Uncle Joe” got involved. Even then, they looked for ways to downplay the US. In Korea, media coverage was obscene.
I don't sell them short. They are very powerful. But they are not a power unto themselves. The MSM represent a common way of thinking, and their style, narrative are accepted by many. But above all, the media represent the views of those who run this country.
