Foreign high-tech workers are taking American jobs and making Silicon Valley's diversity problem worse, Rev. Jesse Jackson said in a Fortune interview.
"There are Americans who can do that work, and H1B workers are cheaper and undercut wages," Jackson said, referring to the class of visas most often used by tech workers.

It’s not just engineers. There should be questions about every person except the 10 smartest people in the building.
They don’t need foreign janitors. Out of millions of unemployed blacks I am sure some want work.
We dont have 12 million illegal alien farm workers. The illegals are getting uppity and refusing to do the few farm labor jobs left.
What’s he talking about? Without Asian workers Silicon Valley has no diversity.
I also hate to agree with JJ. Based on a son-in-law’s experience in a tech company, they don’t need to bring the foreign workers here on visas— easy enough to collaborate over the internet (thanks AlGore).
“But Jackson is also complaining that the janitors and lawyers are non-black as well.”
As it happens the janitorial crew was largely black for many years until the company switched vendors. Then almost all the crew was of Indian descent. The change in attitude, amount and quantity of work improved greatly. The difference was really dramatic.
Start a thread about favorite movie quotes and you can do it. If you start it, they will come...
As an employer, I will disagree with you a bit: at some point, it’s necessary to have face-to-face meetings. Doesn’t matter if the other party is in Bangkok, you will have to have face-to-face meetings to maintain unit cohesion.
Nevertheless, Holder’s people aren’t applying for these tech jobs. Jesse is *really* stretching here. I was going to say that perhaps Jesse could be the first race pimp to write a line of code, but apparently Obama wrote a single line of Javascript already, so the title’s already taken.
Let’s get rid of domestic idiots.
You'd think some stuff can't be outsourced...but via the internet Indian Radiologist are being used to read x-rays in the US.
Are you saying my argument is null and void?
Dawg!
You don’t call, you don’t write... LOL
I hope you are doing great and your prospects this year are excellent!
Miss you and your humor.
Actually, drove by your old homestead yesterday and looked to see if your car was there.
Had to drive someone over to that assistant place on Senter and then downtown, to get his mail at “general delivery”.
This is the second time I’ve agreed with something JJ has said. Of course, it’s New Years Eve and I haven’t had a drink yet.
its not a bad sentiment but it should go for all immigrants here.....no jobs for them unless Americans are hired first..
I can’t stand the slimebag Jackson.
But I couldn’t agree more on this issue.
Close down illegal immigration.
Throttle legal immigration.
Close down the L1 and the H1B.
What fools would open the flood gates of any sort of immigration when the workforce participation rate is as low as it was in the 1970’s?
Also, if we let you in, become American. Don’t Balkanize our country and shove your culture down our throats.
If you don’t like it, GTFOOMC.
I think with the immigration enforcement, Jackson claims to oppose racial profiling which he will keep alive.
He’s racist.
Really? It's not like "his base" is next in line for those jobs.
Maybe just this once, by accident, Jackson is supporting the plight of the white middle class worker?
But don't point it out to him or he might change his mind.

Jesse is wrong again, or yet. There are no American tech workers all our colleges are teaching is politics.
RAYSISUM!
You're 100% correct. I can imagine no easier targets to shake down than foreign-owned IT companies.
Rasis!
Get the Chamber of Amnesty to write him a check.
All of which has led me to believe that African-Americans are now facing an existential crisis. In short, they have gone berserk. They have been hit with the truth -- that most cannot keep up in today's world. What do people of poor internal resources do when confronted with a crisis? They have nervous breakdowns.
Liberals, too, are in deep denial. They are still trying to fit a square peg into a round hole -- avoiding the painful truth that equal opportunity does not mean equal outcome. After all these years, they're still playing the race card to rationalize failure. It is finally wearing itself thin.
Although not black, I relate in some ways to the plight of the underclass, having survived a dysfunctional family and struggled in the world. While I managed, with God's help, to rise above it, I realized that I cannot blame everything wrong on my parents, childhood, or even school. Sometimes the problem is me. It is not always environment. It is my intelligence.
I do not have the talent or ability to work in Silicon Valley, even if I were dropped down in the middle of Google. I wish I were that smart, but who said life was fair? Instead, I must rely on my strengths or saving graces and manage from there.
A shame Mr. Jackson doesn't get it.
