Kareem Abdul-Jabbar: The Police Aren’t Under Attack. Institutionalized Racism Is.
TIME ^ | 12/22/2014 | Kareem Abdul Jabbar

Posted on 12/22/2014 8:18:58 AM PST by SeekAndFind

The way to honor those who defend our liberties with their lives — as did my father and grandfather — is not to curtail liberty, but to exercise it fully in pursuit of a just and peaceful society.

According to Ecclesiastes, “To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose.” For me, today, that means a time to seek justice and a time to mourn the dead.

The recent brutal murder of two Brooklyn police officers, Rafael Ramos and Wenjian Liu, is a national tragedy that should inspire nationwide mourning. Both my grandfather and father were police officers, so I appreciate what a difficult and dangerous profession law enforcement is. We need to value and celebrate the many officers dedicated to protecting the public and nourishing our justice system. It’s a job most of us don’t have the courage to do.

At the same time, however, we need to understand that their deaths are in no way related to the massive protests against systemic abuses of the justice system as symbolized by the recent deaths—also national tragedies—of Eric Garner, Akai Gurley, and Michael Brown.

Ismaaiyl Brinsley, the suicidal killer, wasn’t an impassioned activist expressing political frustration, he was a troubled man who had shot his girlfriend earlier that same day. He even Instagrammed warnings of his violent intentions. None of this is the behavior of a sane man or rational activist. The protests are no more to blame for his actions than The Catcher in the Rye was for the murder of John Lennon or the movie Taxi Driver for the attempted assassination of Ronald Reagan. Crazy has its own twisted logic and it is in no way related to the rational cause-and-effect world the rest of us attempt to create.

Yo! Louie, shut your piehole.
The ‘institution’ of the US is under attack. Your fellow travelers don’t give enough credit to how far this nation has advanced. The only thing holding her back is the culture of corruption.

Abdul-Jabbar was a good basketball player. He could have remained silent and thereby retained the benefit of the doubt from others that he was intelligent.

Maybe so, but I’ll still do my own thinking.

Institutional racism is under attack.

The assassination of two police officers, neither of whom was white BTW, is seen, then, as an attack on institutional racism, implicitly a good thing.

May we then assume that assassinating the entire NYPD would be a huge step toward eliminating institutional racism, Kareem?

This idiotic statement is one striking example of why I don't engage in dialog with Left and the Moonbats who inhabit it.

The excuse-making from the liberals who have advocated street executions is nauseating.

Can’t put much creditability in a muslim on any topic unless it relates to murder of the infidels. And here is a guy who has made it still whining about descrimination.

“According to Ecclesiastes, “To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose.” For me, today, that means a time to seek justice and a time to mourn the dead.”

Yeah, that’s obviously the whole purpose of that book of the Bible. To justify the killing of cops who have their backs turned. /s

The Bible tells us that God commanded us not to commit murder and to love our neighbor as ourselves. To love our enemies and pray for them. I notice that these Christian commands are not touted by Mr. Muslim. Only the ones that ostensibly support his nonsensical narrative. No matter what you believe about these cases, no person who really believes in justice or has an ounce of common sense can honestly say that shooting random cops who had nothing to do with these incidents will make anything better.

Strange that a Muslim quotes The Bible... KAJ is a film maker? Who knew?
