If you happen to be a young Republican or conservative of any stripe who is attending the University of Michigan, rest assured that you will receive the same respect and fair treatment as anyone else. Particularly if you happen to wind up taking a class from Professor Susan J. Douglas or any other in the department she chairs. The educator of young minds and prolific writer has penned a thoughtful editorial piece in which she explains that its actually okay to hate Republicans because the science supports it. National Review has the details.
I hate Republicans, communications department chairwoman and professor Susan J. Douglas boldly declares in the opening of the piece. I cant stand the thought of having to spend the next two years watching Mitch McConnell, John Boehner, Ted Cruz, Darrell Issa or any of the legions of other blowhards denying climate change, thwarting immigration reform or championing fetal personhood.
She writes that although the fact that her tendency is to blame the Republicans . . . may seem biased, historical and psychological research back her up, and so its basically actually a fact that Republicans are bad!
Clearly the science is settled. The professor informs us that Republicans:
- are focused on the determined vilification of others - have psychological traits such as dogmatism, rigidity and intolerance of ambiguity - demonstrate resistance to change and support for inequality
James Joyner makes the argument that perhaps Ms. Douglas should be seeking other employment.
Id go further and question Douglas continued membership on the faculty, much less a leadership role, at a state institution.
Im a near-absolutist on academic freedom and have zero problem with vehement Republicans, Democrats, Communists, or whathaveyou on faculty so long as theres some reasonable diversity of viewpoints. But to espouse hatred of a particular group, particularly a group that a large portion of the student body is likely to associate with, has, to say the least, a chilling effect on discourse. Further, her column will forevermore be prima facie grounds for appeal for any student of Republican persuasion unsatisfied with their grade in Dr. Douglas class.
To get a bit more of the flavor of the professors background, its worth looking at the titles of a few of her many books:
Enlightened Sexism: The Seductive Message that Feminisms Work Is Done (2010) The Mommy Myth: The Idealization of Motherhood and How It Has Undermined All Women, with Meredith Michaels (2005) Where the Girls Are: Growing Up Female with the Mass Media (1994)
Theres very little left to say. If you are paying for the tuition of a child attending the University of Michigan, pull them out and send them to a technical school. Or a military academy.
There are some lefties out there who need to be euthanized.
Maybe it’s the fault of the Football Team’s recent record??
Feel the luuuuuuuve emanating from the Left......................
I’m with her on this! We should round up all Republicans, starting with Tea Party Conservatives, and put them on trains bound for “re-education camps.” We can’t have them negatively effecting society and standing in opposition to the “Brave New World” utopia that statism is surely to implement.
/s
HATE and LIBERALSIM. Not only are they repetive but also redundant.
If that’s the case, then UF Gators’ faculty should be setting fire to the campus by now................
...before they do it to everyone else.
Liberals want to grant “personhood” to chimpanzees and other cute animals, but not to unborn human babies. /spit
None of which have sullied the psychological profiles of those on the left.
Then, of course, one would have to believe that he feels it is okay to hate Democrats too.
Did ya catch that gang? Liberals will tell you whats OK and whats not. As long as you toe the line youll be accepted; otherwise its off to the gas chamber with you.
I would think that there are a good number of University “hate” regs and Fed/State discrimination laws (since this is a state school) that could be used to lodge ethics complaints against the professor and even sue the school.
Everything from local College Republican/Conservative groups charging her with creating a hostile environment, to finding some Republicsns who believe she discriminated against them due to her bigotry.
You know, the College Republicans could spur a HUGE resurgence on college campuses if they’d reposition themselves as a watchdog group that would investigate and take disciplinary or legal action against this sort of thing.
And it is okay to despise and hate commie dimocrats also.
Ya. We can start the pograms by using the IRS to hound and harass them out of the system. And use the courts to put their businesses into closure and end their form of providing for their families. That outta teach them.
</s>
This is a Hate Crime, and should be investigated and prosecuted and punished.
Given that it is a true belief ensconced in her brain, it indicates pre-meditation of the concept of Republican Hate, and thus a Hate Crime in the 1st Degree.
IFunny typo. pogram = pogrom
Don’t worry, when the SHTF these type of people will be the first to go... and that gives me solace.
Conservatives think liberals are stupid. Liberals think conservatives are evil.
