People who own all-electric cars where coal generates the power may think they are helping the environment. But a new study finds their vehicles actually make the air dirtier, worsening global warming.
Ethanol isn't so green, either.
"It's kind of hard to beat gasoline" for public and environmental health, said study co-author Julian Marshall, an engineering professor at the University of Minnesota. "A lot of the technologies that we think of as being clean ... are not better than gasoline."

CNG could be good.
sssshhhhh don’t tell some of the folks here at FR you will upset their love for ridiculous technology
Shocking!
This time of oil abundance would be a wonderful chance to sh!tcan E10 fuels...but since it’s pushed by the ag lobby, both sides of the aisle are afraid to attack it.
Oh, gee golly, really?
Wow! “Breaking News” c. 2005 from ABC!
When did ABC get into satire?
I’d ROFLMAO about this “study” or “scientific revelation” except there is one huge glaring problem. While I would love to forward this article to the liberal green peace hippies and Prius drivers, we must remain intellectually honest. The premise of the study is completely false, so any analysis comparing what is more or less to “cause deaths” based on it, is also bogus. It would be like debating who moves faster, Santa Claus or the Tooth Fairy. If a study proved one or another, I’m sure you could find a liberal to believe it.
But we are FReepers.
And then there's the problem when there's an accident and the special precautions that have to be taken.
CNG is WAY older than that.
LOL, just now figuring this out...
Like you can name even one person at FR who believes in ridiculous technology.
It is no slouch -- off the starting line it adds the torque of 3 different electric motors to the 300+ HP engine. Like the predecessor models, it has all-wheel drive, but the rear wheels are electrically driven. There's no mechanical coupling of the gasoline engine to the rear wheels.
It also uses the electric drive on the rear to create drag on the inside wheel and drive the outside wheel when turning, even when not accelerating. As a result, the car feels much more nimble than its 4,000 lbs.
MPG is 28/32: not stellar, but a substantial improvement over the non-hybrid version's 20/31. At current gas prices, I'm not sure it's worth the additional cost for gas mileage alone, but there are a number of other features unique to the hybrid version.
WHAT , All-Electric Cars are not delivered by and powered by Green Fairies
An electric car is basically a coal fired car.
Just goes to show that everything that happens in DC is a dog and pony show. The people with the most leverage over politicians call the shots. There are several “conservative” Republicans who fight tooth and nail to preserve welfare for farmers and other business interests in their states.
