On Friday evening, the Senate's leaders, Mitch McConnell and and Harry Reid thought they had an agreement from their members to let the clock run over the weekend without actually being in session, and vote Monday on the $1.1 trillion spending bill needed to keep the government up and running. But Sens. Ted Cruz of Texas and Mike Lee of Utah objected to the spending bill. This meant their colleagues in the Senate would have to hold a rare Saturday session to keep the spending bill moving.
It also had the unintended benefit of helping the Democrats move forward with the nominations of 24 of the Obama administration's nominees for executive and judicial branch positions. Without the delay, the Senate could not have started voting on the nominees until Monday evening - and at that point, if lawmakers started leaving town for the holidays, Democrats would likely have been denied their last shot at confirming the president's nominees while they have a majority in the Senate.
Now, the Senate will begin voting to confirm the 24 individuals Monday morning. Here are four of the more controversial nominees who will now get a vote.

Of course the left wing press still finds a way to blame everything on the Republicans.
Thanks Ted Cruz !
Contact your senators and urge them to oppose these nominations. Especially vivek murthy(sp) as “sturgeon colonel”. Docs against Glocks have no place in a position to make policy. Wouldn’t it be nice if we had nominees based on their knowledge and not on their political posturing. If I believed that was the case......... In any case, I won’t be holding my breath. “I CAN breath, I CAN breath!”
Actually, it’s one more time the left gets to use the name TED CRUZ for some perceived event.
These leftists of today are so transparent .. we see exactly what they’re doing. They can lie, and lie, and lie about the merits of Hillary .. and that’s okay .. but when they start lying about Cruz .. I’m just laughing.
There’s nothing like NAME RECOGNITION.
This is more of the Cruz Derangement Syndrome. The left fears Cruz, therefore they must attempt to categorize him as off the spectrum of acceptable politicians. Reid had all of the procedural authority he needed to bring these up this week regardless of the maneuver by Cruz and Lee last week. The problem the media is going to have in their attempt to treat Cruz in the manner they did Sarah Palin or even Dan Quayle is that he is smart as hell, an intellectual white hot saw, and he will not be painted by their best efforts.
Journalistic malpractice. The Scum Bag Demon Rats would have done this ANYWAY.
See BS “news” is a joke.
We also have Senators on record voting on the Constitutional Point of Order:
Note, Cornyn (TX) voted for the spending bill and against the point of order, then said something about taking care of it next year.
Because of Ted Cruz’s actions, the whole nation is aware of the treachery of the HOR leadership, the US Senate, and specifically which pols backstabbed the nation. It’s worth those nominations, especially since without this kind of scrutiny the DC sellouts would’ve approved of them anyway.
23 “republican” senators voted that Obama’s executive amnesty was consistent with the Constitution.
..you can stick a flower in an a&&hole, but it don't not make it a vase, it's still and arsehole
The idea that starting on these nominations this morning instead of this evening makes any difference in how many get confirmed is shear stupidity. The idea that someone like Reid would not use every bit of power possible to destroy America before turning over the reins - even if it meant sticking around until 11:59 PM on 31 Dec, is ludicrous.
Besides - since when has CBS News reported accurately and fairly on any issue?
This is a White House talking point handed out to the media on Saturday afternoon.
If you think that Reid is doing this because of Cruz, or that Cruz’s delay of the Bill allowed for this, then you are a moron.
Reid said he was going to do this back in November.
Correctomundo, Dave.
In an article by Erick Erickson on Redstate.com, posted here on FR, Erickson called out Flake and other amnesty supporting anti-Cruz Republicans http://www.redstate.com/2014/12/13/senate-gop-leaders-and-their-pro-amnesty-pundit-friends-find-harry-reids-st-sandwich-quite-tasty/:
“What did Cruz and Lee do? They made objections and dragged out the clock. In the interrim, Sen. Harry Reid (D-NV)11%11% filed for cloture on nomination votes. Republican critics of Cruz and Lee claim that if they had not fought on amnesty, cloture would not have been filed on the nominations.
“This is staggering bullcrap. In other words, Jeff Flake, Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY)68%, Matt Lewis, etc. believe Sen. Harry Reid (D-NV)11%11%.
“Follow along for a basic explanation of what has transpired.
“Cloture votes occur in the order they are filed, but after disposition of each bill or nomination that is the subject of the cloture petition.
“For example, if Reid files cloture on bill A and bill B, one after the other, cloture on B only occurs after both cloture and passage of A.
“Cloture, remember, is the procedure to cut off debate not a vote on actual passage.
“Last night Sen. Harry Reid (D-NV)11%11% filed cloture on the CROmnibus.
“-Today he is going through procedural votes to file cloture on a number of nominations.
“Under Senate rules though, both cloture and final passage of the CROmnibus must occur before the cloture votes on nominations can happen.
“Therefore, we will be in the same place by Monday as we would be if Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT)96%96% hadnt objected to Sen. Harry Reid (D-NV)11%11%.
“A Senate source outside the Cruz and Lee offices with direct knowledge of the behind the scenes conversations tells me, GOP leadership knew Reid was going to file cloture on up to 20 controversial nominations yesterday afternoon before they tried to move CROmnibus votes to monday. They told us the process to clear non-controversial nominations had broken down because Reid was going to file cloture on these nominations. So they knew this was going to happen regardless.
“Another Senate source outside the Cruz and Lee offices tells me, These guys are using Manu (a Politico reporter) as their stenographer. Theyre really just pissed they have to work this weekend and thats it. You can certainly tell who their friends are out in pundit land.
“The Republican leadership is arguing that they might have been able to convince Reid to hold off on these controversial nominations if we played ball on the CROmnibus, but thats just speculation. The tradeoff last night was for Lee et al to give up their right to offer amendments on the CROmnibus in exchange for the possibility that Reid wouldnt go through with his nominations, if he was feeling generous.
“In Washington, more and more Republicans and their pundit allies have decided poop sandwiches sure are tasty!”
So Flake, who voted to fund Zero’s amnesty, is trying to blame Cruz for “unintended consequences” when the Cruz point of order had nothing to do with Dingy Harry’s ability to bring these nominations up.
Flake is a vindictive little snit and McCain’s mini-me.
Yeah, ORAG, Harry Reid was gonna confirm these nominees regardless of Ted Cruz' actions or not. DingyHarry hates Ted, so why do you too?
yep, exactly, as IF the Republicans would actually stop any nominee!
ROFL!
What has Cruz actually done besides bump his gums and gain national name recognition for himself? Take a look at his work history since college. It’s all either academia or elected office. He’s never run a business and never managed anything. He just says things you like to hear. It’s deeds, not words that matter. Kinda reminds me of another Senator who hailed from Illinois who said a lot of stuff some people liked to hear......
Say THANKS to the so called Republicans who voted FOR this ...
Exactly. Did anyone who thought Reid wouldn’t use the nuclear option on his way out is smoking some good crap. Or in NBC’s case, just smoking crap.
Being in the minority with most of his own party siding with the majority time after time I'm not sure what more you would expect from a junior senator.
