Will video kiosks work for $15.00 per hour?
Tell me about it.
I am in tech and unemployed.
I call it ‘rise of the machines’. Sound familiar?
bump 1:30
So now you’re following me around to see where I eat? You have NO IDEA which restaurants (if any) that I patronize. Put your “broad brush” away. If people do go to McDonalds, Wendy’s, Burger King and Subway more than they do some one-off place, it might be because in the Obama economy it makes sense to stretch a dollar. Many chains have $1 menus. Most family run establishments do not. And by-the-way, many McDonalds and the like are owned by families. What about them?
I think I will still go to the local Pizza place that make real pizza.
Sadly we have none here because people only support chains.

I fail to see why you think regular restaurants will die due to this great touch screen hocus pocus.
BTW I HATE Self check out.
Mickey D’s is no dollar stretcher for the consumer.
It is sub standard food at sit down prices.
Nothing on the dollar menu is a dollar, and everyone offers kids portions.
Around here though (DC area), I always take the machine check out over the unfriendly, unpleasant and incompetent checkout out bitches. I welcome the our new ordering machine overlords!
Poor Bon Qui Qui.
If they program it to say "Thank you," it will be a rousing success.
Touch screens are more cost efficient than $2.00 an hour employees, this has nothing to do McD employees wanting higher wages.
Machines will replace every job that can be replaced with machines in the coming years. It won’t just be minimum wage jobs. Also machines/robots will work in conjunction with people, so one employee can do the job of 3...5....10....100.... machine and human augmentation. There will be a quantum leap when someone develops capable AI for machines and robots. Few jobs will be undo-able for machines, and sooner rather than later I think.
As machines replace workers in Asia/China it should become just as cost effective to manufacture in North America and Europe at some point.
What will be the result? Super socialism? Super corporatism socialism? Mass population control and mark of the beast?
Heck, maybe they can program it to speak English
does that mean they will get my order right for once?... I am for it..
Very. And it is dehumanizing everything.
What do people do when they get bored?
They have wars.
And now with legalized pot, it gets harder to find workers who aren’t using.
No kidding, I was told by a manager at Vons that 9 ou of 10 that apply test possitive for drugs. Not good.
