Jeb Bush has quietly consulted former Republican presidential nominee John McCain about how to run for president without pandering to conservatives in a GOP primary, according to a new report.
The New York Times, in a story published Friday, examines the former Florida governors thinking on a possible campaign. The story notes that Bush seems to be leaning towards running, but has no desire to change some of his political positions to win over the partys base.
When former Gov. Jeb Bush of Florida quietly visited Senator John McCain in his Capitol Hill office this fall, discussion turned to a subject of increasing interest to Mr. Bush: how to run for president without pandering to the partys conservative base.
I just said to him, Jeb Bush has quietly consulted former Republican presidential nominee John McCain about how to run for president without pandering to conservatives in a GOP primary, according to a new report.

I just said to him, I think if you look back, despite the far rights complaints, it is the centrist that wins the nomination, Mr. McCain, an Arizona Republican, said he told Mr. Bush.
The two issues most commonly mentioned as potential problems for Bush with the base: immigration and Common Core. Bush has argued for a pathway to citizenship for illegal immigrants and has also supported the Common Core educational standards stances the GOP base vehemently opposes.

By losing? By taking money from conservatives who are holding their nose and giving it to you to defeat an even worse dickhead, sitting on their money and endorsing your opponent, the [slightly] worse dickhead, then using the conservative money against a conservative Senatorial primary opponent, winning the nomination for an unheard-of $25 a vote? Even AFTER making sure your state's primaries remained open to collectivist gibsmedats? Like that?
Well, Plumpty Dumpty doesn’t need to pander to me...he’ll never get my vote.
Get plenty of photo ops with McNasty, Whoosie Graham.... go on a visit to a foreign country.... stay in close contact with the press.
I won’t vote for Jeb should he win the nomination.
He’s decided he doesn’t need me. I don’t need him and his party.
Of course, that would make it easier for a Democrat to win but quite frankly, I’m hard pressed to tell the difference between a Republican who rejects conservatism and a Democrat who holds the same position.
If Jeb is the standard-bearer, the GOP will deserve to lose in 2016.
I wouldn't think so. But if he did he could certainly get it from either his father or his brother.
Well, DO, there you have it. The "Republicans" (Whateva TF THEY are nowadays) are more interested in crushing conservatives in the primaries than in winning the election.
Because McCain had such a successful run...
Hello!....ANOTHER Bush is a definite loss.
....”Jeb Bush has quietly consulted former Republican presidential nominee John McCain about how to run for president “.....
Well isn’t that stupid...why would you ask a loser how to run!

Yep! (And I can't imagine supporting Jeb.)
jebbie please run..pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee LOL
Well, he asked the right guy...
“And loses the general election.”
I know! Hilarious, isn’t it. So centrist loser McCain—a man who would have lost by a much, much greater margin without Palin—is giving advice on how to run to the middle to win elections? What a joke! Well, McCain’s a joke, so there’s no surprise there.
BTW, low info voters, the likes who keep reelecting McCain, will be the death of this country!
Conservatives are "mean".
Liberals are "nice".
Winning is "mean".
Trying hard but loosing is "nice".
Republicans don't want to look "mean".
As long as they win the nomination and loose the general they will be in a perfect position to have looked as if they tried hard but not hard enough to be "mean".
Without any shoveling?
“Given your above statement, I have to wonder how many others voted for him ONLY because of SP. “
I voted for Sarah and the senile old guy. What does that tell ya?
That’s negotiable. :)
Bush should just go ahead and run as a democrat. The two main issues he’s worried about are in the democratic platform.
This should convince all the “vote republican no matter what” crowd that these people don’t want your votes. So don’t give them to them.
