Texas Senator Ted Cruz is reminding Americans that no civilized nation should ever torture prisoners.
Torture is wrong, unambiguously. Period. The end. Civilized nations do not engage in torture and Congress has rightly acted to make absolutely clear that the United States will not engage in torture, Cruz said during the Q-and-A portion of a speech at the Heritage Foundation.

Excellent post, excellent !
I tend to agree with Cruz on this one also. When I am trying to decide what constitutes torture I ask myself, Self, would I be ok with it happening to our soldiers?
This is not WW2 and is not the same in any way, shape or form.
Analogy fail on your part.
I remember reading something about one of the island battles, if not Iwo, then Guadalcanal or similar. If prisoners showed up, an officer would tell one of his men to “take them to the rear,” which meant get them out of earshot and shoot them.
There was a reason the Japanese garrison would start out with 20,000 troops and at the end there would be a literal handful of survivors.
I absolutely agree.
If they could easily have been killed on the battlefield, there certainly isn’t anything wrong with torturing them for information. Isn’t the reason they were spared death so that they could spill some valuable information?
America’s enemies need to start respecting them - the jihadists must be applauding this report.
Unless it is your loved one being held hostage.....
Define torture, Ted.
Bull, Cruz never just "says things", and he didn't this time.
Ted Cruz is a 43 year old Cuban-American Senator that has a close relationship with his Christian Minister Cuban father, who was tortured by Batista's regime while in a Cuban prison, and Ted is fully knowledgeable of the debate of the last dozen years.
I'm sure that he knows exactly what his thoughts are on this topic.
Actually the the Japs would commit Hara Kari so very few actually surrendered.
Love him... He’s wrong.
Ok, but we are fighting ISIS and al Quaeda, who are FAR more like the Japanese Bushido warrior cult than the Germans. We must be able to adapt our tactics to the enemy we face.
Do we want to be regarded as jolly good fellows, or do we want to win in asymmetrical warfare?
I disagree completely. If my loved one is being held hostage, torture is wrong. I have an increased respect for Cruz because of this no B.S. statement. It will, and has, made people think about what is or isn’t torture, and above all, it’s true. Many may misunderstand it, but that doesn’t make it wrong.
We could prevail if we had leaders who were willing to make us so strong that NOBODY would ‘mess’ with us.
After 9/11, a gentleman whom I considered very wise told me that our response should have been one of such power that nobody would ever try anything like this again. But that is difficult to do, when extra-national interests are attacking you. You would have to be absolutely sure of your intel, AND have kept it in good shape.
We wouldn’t have to torture, if we were seriously invested in defense - and seriously preparing for a possibly necessary offensive capability.
Reagan brought down the Wall without firing a shot; but we’ve got politicians now who aren’t that savvy, and who seem intent on convincing the world that we are not serious about our own defense and believe that we can just ‘schmooze’ our way through.
I’ll give Cruz a pass on this, until I hear his defense initiatives, his plans to beef-up the military, etc.

Thank you.
Terrorists are not soldiers. Terrorists do not have Geneva Convention rights of any kind. It is impossible to mistreat a terrorist. Simply NOT killing them is good treatment.
In all of the reporting of atrocities committed against our troops (and civilians) in Iraq and Afghanistan, I do not recall reading of any war crimes trials against those who murdered the contractors, set them on fire, and hung their bodies from a bridge. I do not recall reading of any war crimes trials for those who stripped the pants off our troops and exhibited them in the press. The man suspected of killing Nick Berg was reportedly killed in a strike. There were a lot of decapitations.
And then we come to Libya where a POW named Momar Gaddafi was pleading for his life, he was abused, tortured, and murdered. Sec. of State Hillary Clinton gave this statement "WE came, WE saw, HE DIED! (laugh laugh)". I do not recall any war crime investigations against the President or his cabinet for actions we sponsored and approved of in Libya.
I don’t expect to agree with anyone 100% of the time.
Isn't that the most perverse, darnedest thing? Liberals just cannot be consistent.
