You are wrong. When you carry a weapon you have an obligation to know what you are getting into before you use it.
This guy was an idiot I wouldn’t want in my neighborhood.
The critical word of course being “reasonable.”
Was it “reasonable” to see a Wii controller in the hand of kid who opens a door as likely to cause death or GBI?
Obviously some cops are accused of bad shoots when they shouldn’t be. Quite possibly Mr. Wilson is in this group.
All I’m asking is a recognition that not ever single shooting by a cop is justified. That some cops may be too trigger-happy.
I wouldn’t. I never would have dared to hold a gun or anything looking like a gun in my hands in front of a cop coming onto the scene. I would have laid anything looking like a gun on the ground, and raised my hands. I would then have followed their instructions.
No you are lying when you present false facts as true. Watch the video and see cops roll up on a 12 year old and execute him in TWO friggen seconds.
Between being so trigger happy they gun down kids with remote controls and toy guns, regarding all dogs as menaces that need to be put down, expansive use of corrupt asset forfeiture laws to deprive citizens of their property without due process, over-deployment of SWAT teams (bad enough when there’s not a hostage situation, but worse when they don’t check the address on the warrant or launch one in response to an uninvestigated denunciation of a neighbor/rival/enemy), old-fashioned corruption, harassment for DWB (driving while black — yes, that is a real thing, it’s not just people who look like ghetto thugs, cops stop middle-class well-dressed black folk with greater frequency than the proportion of blacks in the population would predict), it’s becoming clear the real problem with cops in the early 21st century is that the few good ones give the rest a good name.
If we were talking about the Wii shot, I might actually agree with you. Was it a wand, or was it a gun look-alike?
I don’t know the Wii system all that well. They may have a gun like tool, I don’t know. Perhaps not.
If it was just a controller, ouch. That would be a hard one to explain.
I was walking around with a gun when I was eight years old. Its called hunting. Cops saw us all the time and never bothered to shoot us.
I got my own first gun at the age of twelve at Christmas, so to answer you-YES!
This one, I don't know. I've only seen the video on an old cellphone and it's not clear. I'll wait for more info.
It's clear that Officer Wilson was justified in shooting Brown.
I do not know why these guys pulled that close to the kid. I don’t know the street, where they thought they would run into him, or what opposing traffic was like.
I know this seems nit-picky, but there may be a more simple reason than we are unaware of. Perhaps not too. I just don’t fully know those circumstances.
I think it is reasonable to think the guys got too close. That could have led to the whole incident going South. I agree. Ultimately the kid was deemed to be a threat.
One other person says the kid did not pull something from his waist-band. I had thought he did.
At any rate, I am not as quick to trash these officers as others are.
I don’t like seeing a kid shot like that. The officers obviously keyed off something. I don’t think they just drove up and shot an unknown kid on the street for no reason.
Look if the facts ultimately prove that, then I would have to change my opinion. If the kid made a move that caused them to see him as a threat, I’m taking their side.
I watched the video. I had also thought I read one report saying the kid pulled something looking like a gun from his waist-band. So no, I did not intentionally lie to you or anyone else. If you want to go to your grave thinking I did, I couldn’t care less.
So let me see, you were walking down a city street by a playground with a gun then right?
When I went hunting it was on a farm or forest setting.
As I said to another poster, there are lots of things we could do decades ago. Gangs, increased violence, hey those were the days.
That’s the way it is.
“Were these officers charged with a crime? Were they prosecuted?”
If you’re asking about the cops who shot a cop, I don’t think it has gone that far yet. They certainly took it more seriously than if a cop shot a citizen. Most likely they’re going to try and let it die from the public eye.
Hell, the cops’ shooting in that one was justified. The idiot cop tried to be a cop out of uniform.
But the cops who shot him clearly embellished the story with claims of “He turned on them” and “We ordered him to drop his weapon and he refused”
Are you dumb enough to believe a cop would do either of those? That is what they claim, and it was clearly BS dressing up the story to sound better.
“Does it make a difference? What if another person not an anti-gun person made the call? The officer came on the scene realizing someone was thought to have a weapon. If an anti-nut made the call, would the kid represent less of a threat? If he had what looked like a weapon, would it matter who called?”
The point is they are taking an unverified report and acting on it like it is hard fact. They didn’t know what, if anything was going on.
“What if cops actually analyzed what was going on, instead of rolling up ready to rock and roll, and determined that will be the outcome?
What if they just didn’t respond to the call? Isn’t that really what you would prefer here?”
From one extreme right to the other. No one said don’t respond. All anyone is saying is when you approach a situation with a forgone conclusion in your mind, you will make that happen.
Something really important to consider here. How many incidents of kids at a table with a ‘gun’ have gone bad? Hmmm? How many? Any? Did any suddenly just start shooting people? I don’t think it has ever happened.
One day it will be you or yours on the wrong side of a cop wetting himself over unreasoned fear. And on that day you will learn.
I’m not sure that officers would see it as a threat to see someone laying down on the grown with their arms sticking straight out from their body to the side.
That’s how I would by lying there.
I walked down city streets with bb guns since I was 6. We played cops and robbers, cowboys and indians and cops drove by all the time and didn’t shoot us.
THAT’S THE WAY IT WAS!
I notice you apparently have NEVER bothered to watch the mentally unstable cop murder a kid. The video is out there and so is the evidence that this cop should NEVER have been on any police force.
Me and my idiot friend, were given the security code to the office building where his dad worked. We went in to watch 007 movies and we would shoot each other with disk guns. They looked real. We mucked up the security code and it called the cops. Cops showed up while we were chasing each other around with toy guns. This cop just observed us for a while through the window before tapping on the glass and ordering us out of the building.
That idiot cop would have just shot us both.
To stupid for words.
Sounds like you are going to be a perfect sheep.
Settled. Any time we see police, we’ll assume that position. That, even though we heterosexuals are rather uncomfortable in the presence of unionized bureaucrats while laying on our stomachs.
There are people alive today because when I wore a badge I didn’t shoot first and ask questions later.Nor did the officers of a couple nearby small city departments. They deescalated the situation. I must conclude you are a bloodthirsty statistics.
