Police in Beloit, Wisconsin, want residents to volunteer to let officers search their homes for firearms as part of a new initiative that officials believe will help reduce gun violence.
Beloit Police Chief Norm Jacobs told Wisconsin Public Radio that officers will mostly be looking for guns in homes that residents might not even be aware of. Thats really what were looking for. Maybe well find a toy gun thats been altered by a youngster in the house and we know the tragedies that can occur there on occasion, he added.
Jacobs also told WPR that gun violence is as serious as the Ebola virus. The home searches, he argued, are similar to a vaccine to strengthen the citys immune system, the report stated.
That being said, the police chief admitted he isnt anticipating a stampede of residents eager to have their homes searched.
In 2014, there have reportedly been seven gun-related homicides in Beloit. Most have victims have been teenagers or men in their 20s.
LOL!
Wow. I’ve got paper clips, rubber tubing and glass bowls with stems. All for perfectly good reasons. Wasn’t even aware they’re drug-related. Well, except for the paper clips, which I’ve seen used at concerts.
Can they really arrest someone for possessing a legal item that he has a legitimate use for? Sound odd to me.
Ya think he’s ever kissed a girl?
If the cop really wants to ruin your day, yes.
Would you be convicted? NO, probably not, but by then your reputation is ruined isn’t.
I’m not familiar with the city but is this a place where there’s a lot of “baby daddies” living with women and “he’s such a good boy” grandsons living with grandmas that may bring some toys with them?
Heh, LMAO!!!
add “it” to the above.
I am having a time typing today.
my apologies.
Gosh, why not? It sounds like a swell idea to me. Think of all the illegal guns that they will find in the homes of criminals.
Maybe they could get people to volunteer to have body cavity searches next. You just never know what someone may be hiding in his butt.
Well, Barney, as I live and breathe!
Holy Cow.
Seeing his picture, I now know why he became a cop.
Getta’ Load of this.
except to these guys, everybody is considered a criminal
Which ever cop or public official made this announcement should be keel-hauled, repeatedly dragged through a prickly-pear cactus patch, fired and then sent to prison for the rest of his/her ignorant life.
a freedom lost is never regained. (not without bloodshed anyway).
I'm sure he means well... I mean... if some kid's been able to turn his Airsoft gun into a fully semi-automatic AK49 Super Magnum Cop Killer Assault Thingie gun, jeepers, what then???
Beloit needs a new police chief.
Seriously.
This is a dangerous man.
Maybe well find a toy gun thats been altered by a youngster in the house and we know the tragedies that can occur there on occasion, he added.
Like my four year old might have turned his Nerf gun into an AR15.
Further demographics? Of the victims, and the suspects?
(BTW, this is Wisconsin not NYC. I'd be surprised if 2/3 of homes don't have guns.)
