Michael Tomasky is not content to argue, in the wake of Mary Landrieu's defeat, that Democrats should write off the South as politically-unfriendly territory.
In his Daily Beast item of today, Tomasky goes to great lengths to trash the region in the ugliest of terms. "Reactionary, prejudice-infested, fetid, reject[ing] nearly everything that’s good about this country, just one big nuclear waste site of choleric, and extremely racialized, resentment," is how Tomasky slurs most of the South, saying "almost the entire South" is as he describes it.

I was probably her back-yard neighbor. I can’t remember the street we were on, though. I found the Kennedy house by accident walking around the neighborhood one day. Kind of a bored guard who hadn’t seen anyone that day let us take a tour for free.

There was a retirement complex with a small Kosher restaurant and a little non-brand-name Quickie Mart at the corner.
To add to that, while the North was not a slave area, they taxed exports/imports such that the South bore the extreme brunt of taxation -— money which was then shipped north.
Come down here and say it to our faces. In appreciation, we’ll take you out and show you our swamp.
It’s NOT just the South... democrats were shown the door all over the country.
