In an interview with the Argentine daily newspaper, La Nacion, in which he discussed the family synod, the challenges of his papacy and reforming the Roman Curia, Pope Francis said: In the case of divorcees who have remarried, we posed the question, what do we do with them? What door can we allow them to open? This was a pastoral concern: will we allow them to go to Communion? Communion alone is no solution.
The solution is integration. They have not been excommunicated, true. But they cannot be godfathers to any child being baptised, mass readings are not for divorcees, they cannot give Communion, they cannot teach Sunday school, there are about seven things that they cannot do, I have the list over there. Come on! If I disclose any of this it will seem that they have been excommunicated in fact. Thus, let us open the doors a bit more.
The Pope continued: Why cant they be godfathers and godmothers? No, no, no, what testimony will they be giving their godson? The testimony of a man and a woman saying my dear, I made a mistake, I was wrong here, but I believe our Lord loves me, I want to follow God, I was not defeated by sin, I want to move on. Anything more Christian than that? And what if one of the political crooks among us, corrupt people, are chosen to be somebody´s godfather. If they are properly wedded by the Church, would we accept them? What kind of testimony will they give to their godson? A testimony of corruption? Things need to change, our standards need to change.

My documents were supposedly submitted by a parish priest I was working with. When I would contact him regarding the annulment he would tell me they received it and were “working” on it.
The documents are quite daunting. I had over 34 pages of life and marriage history plus the actual Diocese documents.
I am convinced that they were waiting for money. Perhaps they even contacted her and when she got the letter I got she got her father to pay the bill. I am convinced of this.
Just have the marriage annuled.
Annulment can range into the thousands. One of the money making ventures of the church.
All this “thinking aloud” about “controversial” issues is destructive. It just gives the Left opportunities to sow discord. I would prefer a Pope who forbids discussion.
You think secrecy doesn’t do the work of the devil?
Look at whats happened over the last 50 years.
You mean you are paying to have your sins removed???
I don’t understand you comment :”pushing people away from salvation because their spouse chose to leave is not an optimum solution.”
Since my salvation came through the blood of the Savior how is the whatever the roman church is doing pushing people away from salvation???
Lol, wut??
I’m not talking about secrecy. I’m talking about putting the kibosh on “discussion” about things that can never change.
There is only one reason for “discussion” of Communion for adulterers, gay couples, etc., and that is to gin up “hope” that the Church will cave on adultery.
It is no accident, of course, that the bishops who are talking loudest about Communion for adulterers and gay couples are the very same bishops who have always insisted, and insist now, on giving Communion to Ted Kennedy, Mario Cuomo, Joe Biden, Nancy Pelosi, etc.
I don’t know what legal process you are talking about, because there is no legal process in the Catholic Church regarding marriage that makes children “bastards.” And there are no forms used by the Catholic Church in connection with marriage that any child signs.
The Church loses money on the annulment process. The tribunals are subsidized by the diocese. The VOLUNTARY fees paid do not cover all the expenses.
Like not discussing the churches silence on abortion?
Everyone is a sinner. The question is if they have confessed their sin and repented.
Well based on your statement I would assume you’re not a Catholic. (I’m not either)
Divorced Catholics are to be refused the sacrament. They are also refused numerous other tenants of their faith. This also effects their children. In rare cases the person is excommunicated which according to the Catholic faith is tantamount to preventing that person from being forgiven of their sins and condemning them.
The effect of the Churches action on the divorced person and their children builds barriers between them and God. I’ve known several who simply stopped going to mass, for the rest of their lives.
Divorce is ugly and almost always the result of sin by one or both people. IMO its better to address the root of the problem and stop trying to pretend it doesn’t exist.
“The effect of the Churches action on the divorced person and their children builds barriers between them and God.”
WHich is why I do not subscribe to that version of faith. When my SAvior tells me in His word that “I am The Truth, and The Light, and The Way” that’s good enough for me
Same for me.
