I don’t understand you comment :”pushing people away from salvation because their spouse chose to leave is not an optimum solution.”

Since my salvation came through the blood of the Savior how is the whatever the roman church is doing pushing people away from salvation???

Well based on your statement I would assume you’re not a Catholic. (I’m not either)

Divorced Catholics are to be refused the sacrament. They are also refused numerous other tenants of their faith. This also effects their children. In rare cases the person is excommunicated which according to the Catholic faith is tantamount to preventing that person from being forgiven of their sins and condemning them.

The effect of the Churches action on the divorced person and their children builds barriers between them and God. I’ve known several who simply stopped going to mass, for the rest of their lives.

Divorce is ugly and almost always the result of sin by one or both people. IMO its better to address the root of the problem and stop trying to pretend it doesn’t exist.
