LA Polls close at 8:00 PM CST - in one hour.
Post all updates here.
All precincts in 55.94% for Cas. If this had been a close race, they would have stole it.
64.22% for Ralph Abraham and 62.43% for Graves.
56-44%
Mary Loser ran 2% points better than her November showing but the turnout really hurt her.
With only 40% of the voters bothering to show up, even a lopsided 84-16% margin out of Orleans wasn’t enough to make up the difference.
That’s why she lost.
Another dirty little secret, is just about all the state’s newspapers endorsed Mary. Shows you just how much “clout” they have. Or don’t
Hey, there's a glimmer of optimism.
If he can get decade in prison, maybe there's still hope for: the moslem packer, Holder, Pelosi, Reid, Lois Lerner, Sebelius et al.
What would we have to do?
The state’s papers are run by liberals.
Then again, their endorsements held little sway with the electorate.
In LA, tonight is the end of the Democratic era.
They simply failed this time in the job assigned to them by the financial oligarchy, to shape public opinion.
Nobody reads them anymore. And those who do don't believe their crap.
A concession is merely a courtesy to congratulate the winner. That is all - nothing more and nothing less. If Mary L. conceded tonight, but somehow got more votes when all were counted, she would still win the election. What matters is the number of votes - that's all.
If Mary had conceded on Nov. 4, all that would have meant is that there would have been fewer commercials on the air (as it was, she had no money and ran only a few hundred commercials, Cassidy ran thousands). But they still would have been required to hold the election, since no one had been elected Senator. There are many races where there is only one candidate - well, they still have to hold the election since the candidate still needs to be legally elected.
Why is Lisa Murkowsky as bad for the energy industry as Mary Landreiu?
She could have resigned her seat and allowed Gov. Jindal to name Cassidy.
This runoff was really unnecessary when she got 2% more than she did in November.
I concur.
It good you brought that up.
There was way too much celebrating going on here.
No reason whatsoever to feel good about this win.
Time to get back to crying in the beer.
Here’s the most interesting nugget about tonight. Nothing really changed with the electorate from the jungle primary.
About 180,000 fewer people voted. Those sitting out were basically split the same way that they voted in the jungle primary.
In the jungle, Republican and libertarian candidates finished with 813,352 votes (56.02%). The four Democrat candidates combined for 638,658 votes (43.98%).
In the runoff, Cassidy garnered 712,330 votes (55.94%), Landrieu 561,099 votes (44.06%). Very static.
Are you sure?
I used to live there.
I recall a (white) judge who actually won the primary - a black finished second (both candidates women as I recall).
Anyway the campaign got so ugly that the white woman withdrew. The second place candidate was the automatic winner.
Now that was a local race not a federal one.
She is a dem in republican clothing, look what she did it Alaska when she lost the primary. Ran as a write in and stole the election.
She has got to be replaced as head of that committee, or they might as well hire Landrieu to keep running it...
In the November primary, all the congressional districts were in play, plus many, many mayors, city councils, school boards, judges, and district attorneys. It was a relatively crowded ballot for an “off year” Louisiana election.
The falloff in turnout is not unusual.
Scratch that...
Still extremely static, but Republicans + Libertarian had 832,034 (56.57%) vs. 638,658 (43.43%).
Cassidy finished with 712,330 (55.94%) vs. 561,099 (44.06%).
About 200,000 people that voted in the first election failed to vote in the second (I had some primary totals wrong).
Oh I think I misread your post. If the concession occurs more than X days before the election the runoff is not held.
LOL it’s a good win, great to have one more in the senate!
But we have to watch the GOPe and keep them in line.
