While residents could see as many as six military helicopters buzzing over the downtown area over the next week, raids being held at several undisclosed locations in the city will be off limits to the public for safety reasons, Capt. Brian Block told the Associated Press.

This is nothing new.

Marines have been doing this for about two decades. They use large cities to test their ability to operate in large metro areas, something that a "combat town" can't duplicate. It also exposes Marines to an unfamiliar environment where they have to adapt to. One of the major skill sets developed is urban reconnaissance, and mission planning for heavily populated areas. This training was crucial to how we operated in Fallujah.
