Police questioned group members early in the week and allowed them to stay. But Saturday, after an inquiry by a reporter, St. Louis County Police officers ordered the Oath Keepers to leave the rooftops.
Threatened with arrest for operating without a license, the volunteers argued but eventually left their positions early Saturday morning, Rhodes said.
"We are going to go back as protesters," Rhodes said Saturday afternoon.
Rhodes, who said he is Mexican-American, stressed that Oath Keepers is not anti-government. He said the group volunteers pulling rooftop security in Ferguson were current or former government employees and first responders, many who have intense military, police and EMS training.
We thought they were going to do it right this time, Rhodes said of government response to the grand jury decision released Monday night in the Darren Wilson case. But when Monday rolled around and they didnt park the National Guard at these businesses, thats when we said we have got to do something.
Historically, the government almost always fails to protect people, he added.

Burning the bitch down: the new civil right.
“Gentlemen, get the thing straight once and for allthe policeman isn’t there to create disorder, the policeman is there to preserve disorder.”
Mayor Richard Daley, Chicago
If you are relying on the government to protect you or your business, you are foolish.
To whom do the rooftops belong?
I hope they recorded those interactions, so they can sue the police later.
This is intolerable.
Same as New Orleans:
The cops responded and CONFISCATED GUNS, sometimes slamming totally law-abiding grandmothers, slamming them violently to the ground.
In a desperate situation the authorities will crack down on the EASIEST targets —the law abiding citizens.
Doing that underscores the image of others that they’re in control. It also helps them FEEL they’re somehow still “in control”.
Just more posturing by more slaves too scared to have the courage of their convictions.
And “mysterious”? WTF, headline writer? 5000 idiots from out of town wearing masks and throwing Molotov cocktails aren’t mysterious, I guess.
“How does one hop in their vehicle in Nebraska, with a rifle, gain access to a rooftop (at a workplace owned by someone they don’t know 500 miles away) and be able to lawfully defend said business?
It must require a very detailed knowledge of the law.”
Very easily. It is done on private property with the permission of the property owner.
Anyone can volunteer to help another person without being paid.
Transporting firearms across state lines is protected by federal law.
Freedom of speech and association are protected by the first amendment.
The police violated numerous rights in this case, and deserve a lawsuit and bad publicity.
They are saying, in effect, we cannot protect you and we will not let anyone else help you protect yourself.
The police are profoundly illegitimate in their actions in this case.
My guess is these “cops” are DHS, and not local guys...?
It appears DHS is there mainly to make sure local cops don’t “overreach their authority”.
I think you know what that REALLY means...
Maybe they were on the wrong radio frequencies?
“Why, by gum, that could be ANYTHING.
“Sir, you need to move along. You are ‘operating without a license’.”
You are exactly correct, Laz. You do not *need* a license just to be somewhere.
The mindset shown by the police is exactly that: you may only do what we allow you to do. Profoundly wrong under our system of law.
Ignore the police and if they attempt to engage, shoot. A bad cop is no cop.
The day will come when the powers that be will wish they had not been so foolish.
The deadly disease of liberalism seems harmless for those who suffer it, but its effects quietly build until it kills in a mere moment of terror, the last thoughts being...oh what have I done...
