DENVER A spectacular trove of ancient bones from giant animals discovered in the Colorado mountains is providing scientists with a look at what happened about 120,000 years ago when the Earth got as warm as it is today.
Evidence left behind by mastodons, mammoths, giant sloths and bison along with insects, plants, pollen and other animals offers a glimpse at how animals adapted to climate change.
A team of 47 scientists has been studying material unearthed four years ago near Snowmass, a town just outside Aspen, when a bulldozer was enlarging a reservoir. The researchers published their first batch of data in the journal Quaternary Research in November.
Among their findings: The warmer weather allowed forests to reach about 2,500 feet farther up the mountainside than todays tree line, which is about 11,500 feet above sea level at the Snowmass site. Forests also may have been denser, and smaller trees and grasslands might have been more widespread amid drier conditions.

How did the earth warm up? Were the woolly mammoths driving SUV's?

Yes and they were mining the tar sands as well.

It was warmer just 3,300 and 8,000 years ago.

The previous four inter glacials had temps that were higher than today.

And these finds were from the previous interglacial...

and since it's from the Washington Post, they can never bring themselves to admit that it's ever been warmer than it is today
with a look at what happened about 120,000 years ago when the Earth got as warm as it is today.
even though they say
The warmer weather allowed forests to reach about 2,500 feet farther up the mountainside than todays tree line
It's so confusing. I'll be happier when it's politically correct to say that we are undergoing manmade global cooling because all of our pollution is blocking the Sun. This global warming thing is just getting old - see
Global Dimming
in any case, it's our fault for being capitalists.

This proves that ‘the Earth will do what it will’, so to speak, and we as humans, have no ‘control switch’ or ‘reset button’.
It also proves that the theory of cyclic patterns has been going on long before Robert Fulton built a steam-powered-fed-by-coal boat!
The climate dreamers refuse to count volcanoes as contributors to weather patterns. Remember, one drop of rain is caused by water vapor clinging to a mote of dust.
Which brings to mind, there have beeen discoveries of long dormant volcanoes in the State of Colorado. How close are they to these mastadon finds?

It is time to stop complaining and pay the tax to the only people smart enough to reverse the global warming.
It is true. They will stop the warming by paying for the air conditioning bills for themselves and the cronies on the doll with our hard earned tax dollars.
Once they get this tax in place they will think of another great catastrophe on which to tax like a flush tax.
That should raise a stink with the masses.

Thanks for posting - this is a great graph packed full of information.
The patterns of the repeating warming/cooling cycles is so similar it is striking.
Notice also that CO2 change seems to be a leading indicator of a pending warmer period but a lagging indicator of a cooling cycle.
Hard to deny there are powerful natural forces that we do not understand at work here.
Unless you are a scholarly hack receiving some sort of government grant or some other sort of bat-s**t crazy liberal.

What were headed for is kind of a different situation where were turning the knob way up on climate in a very short period of time. At the end of the Younger Dryas, 9600 years ago, global temps rose 44 degrees F in less than a decade - short like that?

Hey Jack, you have to fix your graph. Al Gore says that CO2 drives globull temperatures up and down; your scandalous graph shows CO2 levels lagging behind
all temperature change (in some portions, the levels seem to react independently.)
Get with the program, Comrade.
