The Rev. Al Sharpton says Rand Pauls efforts to engage black voters could present a strategic challenge for Democrats: If the Republican senator runs for president, fewer African Americans may be motivated to show up and vote against him. The civil rights activist and TV host had breakfast with the Kentucky senator last week, and the pair discussed the need for criminal justice reform before disagreeing over how to deal with the immigration system.

Sharpton sounds like he’s trying to pick the opposing candidate. It is highly unlikely that this is to tell the GOP how to win...
The real problem with Rand Paul’s outreach to blacks is that it is a marginal loser. The effort made to take the black vote from 95% democratic to 91% democratic will lose more votes than 4% of the total black turnout in defections or abstentions from other, much larger voting constituencies. It’s simply not worth it.
Rand Paul is, well, just that, Rand Paul. Nothing to see there
Rand Paul is pandering to the lowest common denominator.
Reaching out to those who already have some conservative ideals is far more effective and Rand Paul doesn’t deserve much credit there.
Real outreach is being done by every day folks with some republicans slowly catching on.
The fact is that it’ll take many cycles of hard work to win Blacks over to voting GOP. And that’ll only produce marginal gains.
However, what Paul’s efforts can do is highlight that Blacks don’t get very much from the Dems which could lead them into a pox on both houses mentality of sitting it out. Esp since Obama won’t be at the top of the ballot again.
Thats actually a good way to go to win elrvtions, and even tho I’ll never vote for Paul I’ll still thank him for doing it. The way to win Blacks over to the GOP is to show that Conservative policies work for their betterment while Dem policies don’t. That can’t happen without the GOP winning elections, particularly the Presidency.
Having breakfast with “The Weasel” shows that Paul INDEED has his eyes closed if he thinks that will help him, the picture proves it.
IMHO, the real problem with Rand Paul's outreach to blacks is that it is blatant false pandering, even cozying up to the Rev Al. He would do better to partner with Ben Carson on real long term solutions. The socialism practiced by democrats has been horrible for the Black community.
Interesting that it is also Rand's MO for pandering to the gOpE with his pal Mitch.
The civil rights activist and TV host had breakfast with the Kentucky senator last week, and the pair discussed the need for criminal justice reform before disagreeing over how to deal with the immigration system.Okay, but who was this civil rights activist the article speaks of?
We’re far more effective when we do it ourselves as private citizens. I got sick of watching the GOP flounder and flail around with outreach and started working on it on my own.
Now I’ve got several black conservative friends who are primarily small businessmen in Detroit. These are people who recognize that democrats destroyed Detroit and that conservative republicanism is the only hope of bringing it back.
I’ve had these people come to my little town to show them that we don’t have a police force because we don’t need one. We’ve got rich and poor living side by side with no envy or mistrust. These are lessons that they can take back and talk to their neighbors about.
I think black conservatism is on the rise.
The real problem is that it does nothing to increase the GOP share of the White vote, which is the key to permanent GOP majorities.
Man, I hope you're right. It seems that it ought to happen at some point. I'm afraid I don't see it, but of course our MSM that functions as a mirror held up to the least common denominator.
Why do we have to “outreach” to blacks? Why can’t they enter modern society from their prehistoric morals and “outreach” to us by obeying the rules of a civilized society and live in the modern world?
That’s the two pronged liberal strategy at work. Just in case you can’t get a democrat elected try and get a liberal republican, like Rand Paul. (John McCain, Mitt Romney. etc etc)
No thanks.
I have faith in Al’s ability to organize low-information Black Voters against Whitey & The Republican Party and their racist cops.

Losing EXTRA pounds is one thing, but he doesn't look at all well.
Okay, I think that finally finishes Rand Paul off here at FR.
