Rep. Bill Cassidy (R-La.) has opened up a 15-point lead over incumbent Sen. Mary Landrieu (D-La.) in their runoff race, according to a new poll from conservative-leaning Rasmussen.
Cassidy takes 56 percent support in the poll to Landrieus 41.
Its the second poll released this week by a conservative outlet to show Cassidy with a double-digit lead. A Vox Populi poll released on Wednesday showed Cassidy with an 11-point lead.
The Rasmussen survey shows that Landrieus efforts to pass a bill authorizing the Keystone pipeline may have done little to sway voters in the energy-rich state.
While 70 percent of Louisiana voters strongly support building the pipeline, those same people favor Cassidy 78 percent to 20 percent over Landrieu. Among those who somewhat favor Keystone, Landrieu leads 54 percent to 40 percent, and she also leads big among those who oppose the pipeline.
A bill backed by Landrieu authorizing the controversial energy pipeline fell one vote short in the Senate. A similar measure offered by Cassidy in the House passed.
According to the survey, Landrieus biggest issue is that she doesnt have strong backing from those in her own party. Only 76 percent of Louisiana Democrats say they support Landrieu, while 21 percent say they favor Cassidy.
Cassidy has almost universal support among Republicans in the state, at 92 percent. He also leads by 7 among independents.
The Rasmussen survey of 1,000 likely voters was conducted between Nov. 16 and Nov. 19 and has a 3-point margin of error.
Has Cassidy’s lead dropped a bit? I won’t rest easy until we have this one in the bag.
*APPLAUSE*
That’s weird. I’ve never read about the New York Times, NBC, Washington Post, CBS or abc polls being referred to as “liberal-leaning”. Hmmmm.
The earlier polls showing Cassidy with 15 to 20 point leads were internal polls from the campaign. This is the first independent poll that I’ve seen.
I have predicted a 20 point blowout, and I’m sticking to it.
They don’t have enough - hopefully- ‘lost’ ballets waiting to be found under a desk, in a bathroom, car trunk, etc - all places that the needed number of votes have been found in other close races to put the demRat over...
The spread is too wide.
Hallelujah...
and THAT is the ONLY way Pubbies will win in the future - to get the vote our in massive numbers
Really? Based on their continuously inflated Obama approval ratings, Ras without Ras is anything but conservative.
Only 15%? Come on, coonasses, you can do better!
I'm with you pardner. Just a shade over 2 weeks, and the LA voters can not take a day off, they must get out and vote on December 6th...One day before Pearl Harbor Anniversary.
Vote like you are a demonRAT, early and often.
Huh? That might be the biggest news of the story.
LOL! I’ll have you know, I’m a certified, classified, and registered North Louisiana Redneck!
But I am 1/8 coonass, so I guess I’m kinda thataway.
Early voting starts today, and runs through next Saturday.
Add the fact that Louisiana is the one most politically corrupt state in the country, and nothing should be taken for granted.
I have predicted a 20 point blowout, and Im sticking to it.
People have got to turn out to vote.
I lived in Cajun country in the 1970’s (Opelousas). The Coonasses down there told me everyone north of I-10 was considered a Yankee. :o)
Special elections are funny. Who knows what the turnout will look like?
Anybody notice that Mary tried to morph into Hillary? Clothes, hairstyle, and public disposition have been copies of Cankles the Lush.
Now that he is declared the winner, people will not go vote``
LOLOL! Not any more...
