Jews Take to the Street: 'Don't Hire Arabs'

Israeli Jews took the streets on Thursday in support of Ashkelon Mayor Itamar Shimoni's decision to temporarily stop the employment of Arab construction workers on sites near schools citing security concerns, even as a debate raged as to the legality of the move.

In Jerusalem, right-wing activists protested in front of the Rami Levy supermarket in the Givat Shaul neighborhood against the employment of Arab workers at the store.

Givat Shaul is located adjacent to the Har Nof neighborhood where two Arab terrorists lethally attacked a synagogue on Tuesday with hatchets and guns, killing four Jews and a Druze police officer - one of the terrorists was employed at a nearby grocery store.

It seems that Arutz Sheva could use a competent fact checker. My son works at the store right next to the grocery store on Rehov Agassi, and he knows exactly who did and did not work there, and neither of the terrorists were employed there. There were also allegations that his co-worker, a skilled fish cutter, was involved, and he was not. But due to this craze of firing Arab workers willy nilly, he has nobody competent enough to properly fillet, skin or scale the fish, and if this keeps up, he could be out of a job, too.

What this is is emotional reactionism, which is the father of all bad policy. I expect it from Arabs, who stupidly go on murderous rampages based on rumor, cheap incitements, conspiracy theories and overheated rhetoric. Jews are supposed to know better, but when everyone is scared, such is the nature of the beast.

I’m glad to see your comment urging reason here.

Fact is, Arabs have helped out in these types of jobs for a long time without much in the way of incidents.

It’s easy to understand the mindset of the reactionaries, but I think they are off base. The cooler heads need to prevail here.

There are lots of Arabs inside Israel that need gainful employment. They shouldn’t be singled out for unreasoned treatment.

The figure breaks down to 6.1 million Jews, or roughly 75 percent, and 1.68 million Arabs, or 21 percent...

These Arabs have lived in Israel since it’s birth, by choice. The are peaceful and conduct themselves in an honorable manner.

They haven’t been a big problem for Israel, and it’s not reasoned to treat them as if they have been.

I understand where you are coming from, but it’s not reasoned to turn on these people. All that would do is confirm some of the worst things said against Israel by the foreign (to Israel) Arabs.
