Richmond, VA (1140wrva.com) – Former U.S. Senator Jim Webb (D), despite having retired from just one term in Washington, has announced he is forming an exploratory committee to consider running for President. If he did run, he would likely have to beat former First Lady Hillary Clinton in the primaries.
Webb says the country needs leadership, and a willingness to work beyond partisan lines. He says he is beholden to no one, and will not govern by polls. He also stresses that he feels the equality of opportunity in the U.S. has been backsliding, and he would work to change that.

Webb went from "Born Fighting" to "Bored Sleeping."
He resigned as SecNav over the retirement of the Garcia-class frigates. There were 12 or 16 of them, were decrepeit and basically deathtraps that the crews were afraid to take to sea (according to an old friend of mine who served on one). But they were being counted towards the “600 Ship” totals.
Retiring them meant that the 600 Ship Navy was never going to be reached. Webb threw a hissy (either opportunistic or deranged ... possibly both) and quit.
What was that deal with the gun being sneaked into the Capitol? Has anybody found out the REAL story behind that?
Webb beat Allen because George couldn’t keep his mouth shut.
Allen & Co tried to morph Webb into John Kerry...Webb was the ‘real thing’ where Kerry mostly a phony.
Allen also over did it on the Maccaca thing...First off why use a word that you have absolutely no idea what its meaning is or what sense it should or should not be used.
Once - maybe, but Allen kept repeating it like he was trying to make a point....
Never want to vote for a POL that is to ‘smart’ for his own good, especially when they don’t know the proper setting to use a word

While perfectly fine it would not be advisable for a young White dude to to go NE or SE Washington and stand on the street corner expounding how ‘Niggardly’ the Mayor is when it comes to giving money to their neighborhood.
I would find it hard(er) to vote for Webb seeing as he hung his aide out to dry in regards to a Pistol that was in a brief case belonging to Webb that Webb had asked his Aide to put in his office (aide was another former Marine).
A Presidential campaign is quite a challenge for the voter: Can you find a great man hidden among a crowd of delusional psychopaths?
STEP ONE: Eliminate most of the psychopaths by eliminating all the candidates who are in favor of chopping babies to pieces.

He has no natural constituency in the Dem party, except maybe those who would take an appearing centrist just to win. Most of those people have fled since the Carter years.
The best chance to put in a pretend centrist boring white guy would be Evan Bayh, who bailed out at a good time from Indiana.

I still want to find out the REAL story behind this. Why did Webb need a gun in his office? And was this incident used to BLACKMAIL him into voting for certain legislation such as ObamaCare?
IIRC he is against affirmative action so that means 40% of Democrats will hate him automatically. He has no path.

Apparently Webb was at the airport and gave his aide a briefcase to put back in his Senate office.
The aide did as instructed, went into the Building and was stopped for bringing a pistol into the building.
Webb may have ‘claimed’ it was his but it did take him awhile and a situation that I feel HE could have squelched immediately got dragged out and I think (not sure) the guy ended up going to court.
The aide was another Former Marine and I lost the rest of the ‘respect’ I had for Webb after that incident...
Marines don’t treat other Marines like that especially when it probably would have been considered an oversight had he come forward immediately.
I think either Webb or a spokesman had said the Aide should have checked out the brief case, so it was HIS responsibility, therefor Webb not to ‘blame’.
I would think that unless directed by the Senator it would be a worse ‘sin’ opening a briefcase that wasn’t/isn’t your own.
Yes. Webb probably figures he can run on his ties to the Reagan administration and the Navy, as a sane and responsible 'Rat. It would be good if he was invited, at every campaign appearance, to read aloud selected passages from his novels.

Yes, you’re correct. He has as much more in common with Obama than with Reagan. Otherwise, why would the Washington Post favored him so much when he ran for Senator in Virginia?
I don’t care, it’s OK with me if the dems muddy up the waters of their candidate pool for a change and waste time and money, especially money.
