WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. Two homosexual men in North Carolina have filed a complaint against their United Methodist minister for refusing to marry them, stating that he has failed to perform the work of the ministry.
Scott Chappell and Kenneth Barner, who attend Green Street United Methodist Church in Winson-Salem, filed the complaint with the Western North Carolina Office of the United Methodist Church late last month, charging their leader, Kelly Carpenter (male), with discrimination.
On October 26, 2014, we asked Carpenter to officiate at our wedding and he has refused to do so, citing church rules from the United Methodist Book of Discipline that forbids pastors from celebrating homosexual unions or performing same-sex wedding ceremonies, the complaint reads. Carpenters refusal to perform our wedding violates our rights as members of his church and my fiance and I wish to charge him for this offense.
It further outlines that Chappell and Barner are active members of the congregation, and that Barner is the current chair of the Leadership Council and often leads the praise and worship portion of the service. The two became engaged during a Sunday service before the congregation.

Living breathing doctrine, who knew God was so fickle?
I thought they did that 50 years ago when Angela Davis was danced down the isle by a Methodist Minister, made a front page photo as I recall.
The whole marriage thing is a moral problem. But the church will have to rule on whether a same-sex marriage constitutes a Biblical marriage for purposes of ordination. Many conservative churches do not allow men to be pastors if they have been divorced.
“The Ministry of God never condones sin. It forgives sin “
Not exactly. The church usually requires that the person repent or even recognize their sin.
I taught this whole thing in Sunday School and used a example of a guy who ran a pyramid scheme in his church. The church removed him from membership after he stated that he didn’t think he had done anything wrong.
Dancing. I know it.
Interesting that they think that their "membership" in that church entitles them to services that the church itself forbids.
EMBRACE DINING AT THE Y . . . OR ELSE!
Here I thought all along Jesus settled those issues, wow.
Actually, Paul decided the qualifications for ordination. Not that churches obey them much.
Maybe same-sex marriage is just another way to identify and destroy the apostate churches.
I perceive that they also have Florida Jokes ...
Exactly. They are violating the Book of Discipline by asking. They could have just as easily demanded the right to baptize someone.
If you’ll notice, most of the jokes are the same, they just change the state and universities!..................
I caught that too ... I think it’s a ‘bot, generating all of them.
Er, no. What they really needed the state to give them official recognition as "married" because somehow civil unions still didn't let them into hospitals and gosh darn it they are so sad about that. Women everywhere wept, judges wept, actors tore their shirts and wailed, so they got the way (or will soon enough) in all 50 states.
So that settles that. Problem solved. Er, no. Now they need churches to recognize them as "married" because ... well just because.
The truth of it is that they know they can collect scalps now on this issue, and they are going around getting them.
Excellent letter -- thanks for posting, Padre.
It certainly should be a warning to perspective members. Of course you don't actually join The Church, you are born into it.
This entire “church” is a bunch of unbelievers. Read the article. The congregation supports these sodomites.
