Japan's economy is in trouble. The latest GDP figures unexpectedly show it to be in recession. In the long term, this is largely a story about demographics, and Japan is fighting an uphill battle.
One-fourth of Japan's population is older than 65, and that number isn't going down anytime soon. That means a shrinking percentage of the population is working. Meanwhile, a growing percentage of the population is receiving benefits, living on a fixed income, and being supported by that shrinking population of workers.
No amount of loose monetary or fiscal policy will bring more working-age people into the economy overnight.

The vast majority of Catholics, Protestants, and Jews have accepted birth control and abortion. Result: Islam, which is organized demonic possession, will take over the world and turn it into a living hell.
In the U.S., in 1968, the year of Humanae Vitae, ONE Catholic bishop stood firm on birth control: Patrick Aloysius O’Boyle, Archbishop of Washington.
Make child bearing EASIER in Japan and things will change. It’s too expensive right now.
These are the "replacement Americans" who are going to keep that median age of ours from crossing the disastrous threshold of 40.
Of course, the 250,000 abortions performed annually in Japan have nothing to do with their situation.
Well, I don’t want to get too graphic, but want to express this thought.
My wife and I enjoyed sex, and as a result of our love, we had 2 children.
Critical numbers of people nowadays, while they are enjoying sex, they are taking steps to ensure that their love doesn’t result in their having children, or more than a certain number of children.
Birth control, as well as the mindset involved with using birth control, is a key reason for fewer children being born.
There’s something of a mindset involved as well, in which critical numbers of young people don’t “grow up” so to speak. They don’t want to accept responsibility of marriage and family, and live their lives in such a way that they have an “extended adolescence”, instead of wanting to “settle down”, if I can put it in those terms.
Ninety-three million Americans have dropped out of the labor pool, yet our GDP is still rising. I’m not so sure about this “demographic death spiral”.
One of the main problems Japan has is the fact that they do not allow non Japanese to become citizens. They have a very low to zero immigration rate and if the younger crowd isn’t making babies, that’s a dangerous mix.
And that’s bad???
Perhaps the positive effects of immigration (both legal and illegal) outweigh the negatives, big picture wise. I see the solution to illegal immigration as one of mitigation rather than draconian prohibition
RE: One of the main problems Japan has is the fact that they do not allow non Japanese to become citizens.
They actually do for ex-colony residents... mainly KOREA and TAIWAN.
And they do give special cases to athletes like Hawaiian Sumo wrestlers.
If memory serves me right, a western missionary who lived there for many years and is practically “Japanized” was actually elected mayor of a town.
One of the big problems in America is that the women tend to be marinated in feminism — heck, our society is very anti-masculine because of feminism1… this makes women-folk pretty unattractive, and no-fault divorce coupled with heavily anti-male [divorce-]courts makes marriage a huge liability for a guy. (Add to this the rather soft stance on divorce that the US's churches have on divorce [compare to Jesus's] and there's little force keeping them from getting a divorce.)

A recent survey showed that a majority of teenage boys in Japan were not interested in sex, and preferred to play video games.

I read that also. They think sex is exposes them to germs and makes them emotionally vulnerable.
