HASKELL, Okla. – A chicken patty, small scoop of mashed potatoes and carton of milk aren’t enough to sustain a high school boy.
But under the school lunch regulations championed by First Lady Michelle Obama, that’s what Haskell High School served recently.
Haskell High School senior Darrel Bunch took a photo of one of his recent skimpy school lunches and sent it to Fox 23.
“It’s mostly the portions,” Bunch says. “Last year we started getting less food.”
“Last year, my boys started calling me, ‘Can you please bring me something to eat?’ ‘We’re still hungry,’ or, ‘This is gross,” the student’s mother, Cheryl Bunch tells the news station.
Another photo taken by a different student showed a single cheese-filled bread stick with marinara sauce.
"When they serve a bread stick and marinara, it’s like, ‘Here, I’ve given up on trying to find you something nutritious and healthy,'” Cheryl Bunch says.
The school refused to allow the news station to show that day’s lunch servings. They wouldn’t even speak on camera.
Haskell superintendent Sharon Herrington defended the lunches off-camera, saying students are offered five items and they are required to take three. That means the chicken patty, glob of potatoes and milk would qualify as a complete lunch under the federal rules.

In reality while we had a school cafeteria(in the 1940's) most of us brought our own lunches from home. I can't remember ever eating in the school cafeteria.

As an engineer I see the problem here.
The trays are much to large. If the schools were to switch to smaller trays it would appear that there is more food. Like the old saying.
“Pessimists say the glass is half empty. Optimists say the glass is half full. Engineers say the glass is twice as big as it needs to be.”
Do I have to do all the thinking here???
Problem is, many of these parents actully pay for the Moochelle lunch!
As a kid, my school had a really good school lunch. My parents had to pay for it.
Sometimes, I brought a bag lunch.
Thanks for clarifying that. I was a bit confused and thought that milk is now considered a soup. 1% milk would be milk broth.
My other puzzlements are:
Why are the trays so big with so many sections when the food served is just a tiny snack.
Why are the trays an ugly blue?
In the kitchen, who eats the leftovers?
And fried chicken for her voters

They (Congress Critters) should be ‘reminded’ that they come up for reelection in 2 years and YOU (the constituents) are watching them.
The other members of Congress should be CC’d everytime the BNG’s are reminded.
As to the Senate, those up in 2016 should be ‘reminded’ of 2014 — often.
They will only get away with what ‘we’ allow them to.
The WashPo making a ‘big deal’ that 2 ‘gay’ potential R Congresspeople were NOT elected - at the same time implying it is a R problem, not (entirely) emphasizing saying that the people in their Districts didn’t want ‘them’.
At least not in the bit I was offered before ‘opening’ the piece.

I blame all the parents that have allowed the schools to be taken over by progressive fascists.
Obutthead and Moochelle should make their girls eat what they are feeding America’s kids. That wouldn’t go over too well with that piggish family.

A growing you boy who is active needs a 2000 calorie lunch before afternoon sports practice. The lunches shown were maybe 500 calories max.
And the wookie devours Wagyu beef and Mimosa’s like they are going extinct.
From 1973ish, I still remember my own worst lunch. ..navy beans with ham flecks, canned kale, apple sauce and buttered crackers. It was horrible but still better than this crap. My dad gave me a book about the history of the shenandoah valley that talked about a widow who lived next to the school and sold a hot lunch for 10 cents back in the depression. The kids that remembered it loved the food.
