Oppression has been a fact of life in America since Europeans first set foot on the continent, and for as long as there have been oppressors and victims, there have been a third group of people — those who stood by and did nothing — according to the guest speaker at the Indiana County NAACP Freedom Fund Banquet.
Dr. challenged the audience even with the title of her talk, “Is There Justice For All?” on Saturday evening at the Indiana Holiday Inn.
Native Americans were the first victims in the western world, she said. Victims of genocide.
Then African-Americans, pressed into slavery, and discriminated against by Jim Crow laws and segregation policies.
Even Japanese-Americans, forced into internment camps during World War II.
Today, African-American men and boys in New York City are prominent victims of oppression, King said. They’re targets of stop-and-frisk racial profiling by the city police, “a policy that has set a standard across the nation for police,” she said.
Today, the faces of oppression have been more personal. Trayvon Martin, in Florida. Michael Brown, in Ferguson, Mo.
“And the list goes on,” King said. “Its no wonder we’re here, questioning, ‘is there justice for all?’ It appears there is a war on our African-American men.”
In more passive ways, King said, ongoing oppression in America is proven statistically. Far more African-Americans are arrested and imprisoned than others. Far more drop out of school and are unemployed. Fewer graduate and go to college.

I have friends that never owned a gun or wanted to that are now stocked up with weapons and ammo. Our government and the media try to hide all the black violence but most people are aware. It’s like the 800 LB gorilla in the room — kind of hard not to notice. Obama and the democrats have made it worse. It’s almost like they want to.

Liberal whites here in the northeast are libs on everything but race; NJ only outlawed slavery 15 years before the Civil War, and the bottom of the state is below the Mason-Dixon line if drawn straight out from PA.
Whites in the northeast are the ones to first bring slaves to the USA.
The main reason they backed away from African slaves is because of higher skilled cheap European immigrant labor at the start of the Industrial Age.
Additionally, some of the greatest violence against blacks was in the northeast.
They won the war so they got to write the history.
Whites essentially quarantined blacks up here; there has never been integration (and I doubt there ever will be). It exists only on the books; the reality is much different. Here in NJ we’ve had our own miniature version of the South Boston busing issues; any white population that even hears a rumor of busing withdraws their children from the impacted district.
Over the years, I’ve traveled the nation on business. The northeast is far more divided than the south.
I believe racism is greater in the north too. I would hear things up north that I never could image hearing in the south. I’ve known blacks too that have told me that people are much nicer to them in the south. They would never want to move back up north.
Frederick Douglas himself pointed out the hypocrisy of northern whites, championing Southern blacks while denying them any sort of equality (or welcome) in the North. It was going on that long ago.
Much of the problems faced in the Northern cities was the arrival of so many blacks to work in factories that soon closed; rather than move on to greener pastures they’ve languished here. The point right before the hollowing out of our manufacturing base was probably the high point of black American advancement in the North itself.
You can still be polite, you don’t have to mention their color at all, or just “black” however:
They ain’t never been to Africa a day in their life.
