Update (11-11-14): According to the Alaska Division of Elections Sullivan has picked up approximately 5,300 votes to 4,650 for the BigItch thus far.
Thats 10,000 previously uncounted ballots, and the Sullivan gain has extended slightly. Dems were hoping for ridiculously lopsided BigItch votes for a comeback. So far so good. I thought you may want to refresh this thread in breaking since we have hard numbers to update.
-- Clump
Prosecute the democrats for cheating as soon as the phnoy ballots hit.
It’s possible that some of the rural areas up North had weather-related issues that delayed the delivery of ballots that were cast on time. They should be counted locally, reported to the state headquarters, then delivered later and double-checked, but that may not be their system.
It’s funny how every single election that’s close ends up having “found” votes that favor the evil Dems and every recount has the numbers shift in favor of the evil Dems. Shenanigans are always in their playbook. The Repubs need to either find an effective way to stop it, or they need to play the same game.
Will wonders never cease?
The Alaska Division of Elections is well managed and there is no corruption. I do not understand all of the negative post about fraudulent votes. The counting will start again on the 11th and this election will be over by the 12th even though absentee ballots can be received until the 19th. This time line is the law in Alaska and is not corrupt. Most of the remaining uncounted absentee ballots are from R districts. I do not see a path for Begich and there is a small opportunity for Parnell. Please be patient and let Alaska system work, there is nothing new here.
This article is misleading at best. Thousands of these votes are actually having to be cross referenced with registration rolls before they will actually count.
While frustrating, I think the lack of regular updates is evidence that the dems aren’t able to just dump loads of boxes in and immediately “update” the tally.
I went back and looked at 2008 and checked the numbers.
It looks like the total votes cast this year represent about 2/3 of the 2008 total.
In 2008 Big Itch was down roughly 3,000 votes on election night, and he ended up winning by just shy of 4,000.
So even if he wins the post election tally by the same margin as he did in 2008, AND the number of votes that come in are the same as 2008, he will still be 1,000 shy.
And those assumptions are not going to pan out.
There are actually areas for both candidates where they have an advantage in numbers.
In reality I think Sullivan will hold on with a few thousand to spare.
Also, they talk about ballots that are out there, but that doesn’t mean they will all come in.
I understand the paranoia, because I’ve seen all the same crap everyone else here has over the years.
If our lead was 3 or 4,000 I would be nervous. Especially if the senate majority was going to be determined by the outcome.
Sullivan’s team is acutely aware of who they are dealing with.
Over 3% puts it beyond the margin of post election hanky panky.
The Alaska Division of Elections is well managed and there is no corruption.
I sure hope so. I guess we’ve seen so much corruption we’re a little paranoid.
I’ve never seen a projected winner so I tried to find an update. I the article I found was the most current I could find.
AK, Senate - 100.00% reporting
Dan Sullivan 48.96%Republican 110,203
Mark Begich 45.34% Democrat 102,054
So, Sullivan won fair and square. What, not so fast.
Now this from here:
"More than 40,000 ballots will likely be counted starting Tuesday, though the number will probably climb even more before then. To win, Begich would have to reverse election night trends and win a substantial majority -- though his allies have pointed out that in the count following Election Day in 2008, Begich overcame a 3,000 vote deficit to Republican Ted Stevens and ultimately won by 4,000 votes."
"The spike between Wednesday and Friday was a reflection of state elections officials new accounting for more than 13,000 provisional ballots, 2,200 absentee ballots submitted by fax, mail or email, and some 5,200 ballots cast early at the in-person absentee voting locations across the state."
The longer it goes, the more votes they find. . Going to be close. Hope Priebus has attorneys there and local Republicans are watching the process.
Holder flew the votes that were being held by the black panthers. The votes are on their way to AK.
Keeping fingers crossed. Hope Sullivan wins and Landrieu drops out. That would give us 54 and if we can just get 6 democrats to join in a lot of bills and overrides of vetoes. . WhooHoo!!
Well put.
