Arrowhead (John) fell off a 20 ladder at work, onto his head, and has a severe brain injury!
Broke all the bones in his face and skull, broke his shoulder blade and some ribs.
His last post was 10/20 in the morning. He fell about 2pm that same day and was LifeFlighted to the hospital; then, after about 6 hours of surgery, he went directly to ICU. It was touch and go for days in critical condition.
After 2 weeks in ICU he has been transferred to a Specialty Neurological Rehab center in Austin, as of 11/3.
He can move his arms and legs, so no spinal injury, but he is not cognizant. Sometimes he can respond to can you squeeze my hand?, sometimes not. His daughter is getting ready to go back home.
The nurses are calling them every day. Small improvements are noticed, such as he sat up for 10 seconds today, but no one has a prognosis. Brain injuries heal how they heal, when the heal, if they heal....3 to 6 months at least.
PRAY HARD, please!!!! And spread the word to your prayer lists.
THank you for all of the updates on Arrowhead’s condition. And please convey my thanks to his daughter Lisa. I’ve been out of town, and it was easy to back track through all of the updates because you posted them in blue! Kiss kiss; hug hug! That made it really convenient to get every bit of the good news in Arrowhead’s progress.
Lisa should stop apologizing for “lengthy” and frequent emails. We all love every bit of the news.
I want her to know that her detailed history of her dad’s progress helps other people too. Although I just had simple knee replacement 2 years ago, I have not wnapped back like I expected. I realize that it is because I’ve been too easy on myself — sitting at my comuter, or infront of the TV too much. Somewhat akin to the weakness Arrowhead faced after a long time in the wheelchair and in bed. I realize from reading her accounts that I’ve got to get up and move more. Thanks for the prod.
I also ordered and had installed “never clean” gutters for the whole house an barn as a result of reading about Arrowhead’s original accident. My husband is my rock, and I don’t need him falling off a ladder!
So many good lessons in her accounts that reach far beyond her own family.
Continued prayers for Arrowhead’s continued recovery.
Thanks for the update. I have linked it to the Weekly Garden Thread. Continue to pray for Arrowhead and JRandom Freeper.
Thank you so much for the update! Praise the Lord for the progress John has made. This is really encouraging news. :^)
Prayers continue...
Dear Lord, Jehovah Rapha, hear the cries of your children and bless your healing grace upon them.... We have seen your mercies in the progress documented to date... so please continue to be with this family during this time of trial.... for through YOU.... everything and all is possible... Amen
"Thanks for the message, it is appreciated as always... and for passing on the email from the other FReeper with the TBI! I wanted to wait to write back until he had been transferred from St. David's to CORE.
The move went smoothly on the 6th, and Mom has been to visit a few times already in the days since then. He already fits in very well at the new facility and I'm told that he loves to be out in the halls and activity areas in his wheelchair, sitting and doing his best to visit with the staff and the other patients. He is in therapy Monday through Friday for quite a bit of his day, and has a little more time for R&R on the weekends.
You are certainly right - there has been SO much rain down their way! I'm sure he talked about the lake from time to time, it was so far down for the last few years (something like 60 or 70 feet?) With all of the rain they have had it literally brought it up 50 feet in a couple of weeks! It was amazing, and is pretty close to being completely full. I will tell Mom to pass on to him that the FReepers have been asking about all the rain and that big lovely lake of his. :)
Thank you again for the email. Have a great weekend!"
The need continues for prayers and cards of support.
Please add update at 565 to the title.
Thank you.
Kathy, thanks for the great update.
Was thinking of John last night when we heard the news about Petruchio.
Need some good news this week, and here it is.
Fellow Freepers, Kathy has Arrowhead1952’s address—freepmail her for it.
The cards mean a lot to him. It has been a very long road for him and his family.
Prayers to continue. Thanks for update.
Prayers continue! Thank you for the updates.
Thanks for the update! Will continue in prayer for our beloved FRiend Arrowhead.
May John’s recovery accelerate. God Bless he and his family.
BTTT
Prayers continue and it's so good to hear that he continues to improve. He needs to be out there catching more fish!

Continued prayers.
Kathy, thank you for the update.
Sounds good.
Thanks for the latest update. I’m glad he’s settled in his new facility, and getting around to visit others. It’s probably done a lot to help in his recovery.
Still send cards to his home address?
And Lisa just sent me a couple pictures. I will upload them tonight and post them.
Yes, please send cards to his home address....then his wife can take them and read them to him. Maybe at some point they can be sent to CORE as he improves.
Awesome! Look forward to seeing them! It’s good to know who we’re praying for. :)
