Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) is planning to make ObamaCare a priority in his first weeks as leader of the Senate, vowing a sustained effort to dismantle the law piece-by-piece.
Instead of a full repeal, McConnell said the GOP will tackle unpopular aspects of the law such as the individual mandate, the medical device tax and the 30-hour workweek requiring employers to provide insurance.
These are the kinds of things that I believe there is a bipartisan majority in the Senate to approve, he said in the interview with Time magazine published Wednesday. The only other priority he listed was the Keystone XL pipeline. The newly reelected senator isn't giving up on full repeal, however.
"He does support full repeal and will continue to push for it," McConnell spokesman Brian McGuire told The Hill.
Although suspicion is understandable, McConnell's plan for dismantling the ACA seems practical - for now. However, the full repeal of Obamacare must never be taken off the table and the voters must make that clear to McConnell and the congressional Republicans.
Assuming a Republican president is in the White House in 2017, Obamacare must be repealed! No excuses.
We haven’t had a budget in six years.......................
Eliminate the Obamacare line from the tax forms for 2014. Do it now!
When I had someone ask me the other day how it is possible that no budget has been passed, ever, during the Obama years,
I didn’t know what to say - they just keep passing these continuing resolutions to keep the gov’t funded and pass omnibus spending bills, but no budget. Isn’t it Constitutionally required? Is this just another example of simply ignoring Constitutional requirements?
Defund the aca enforcer, IRS..
Yes. Relentless pressure has to be kept on this guy McConnell.
First and foremost pressure of trying to keep him from the Leadership seat.
And this: “He does support full repeal and will continue to push for it, McConnell spokesman Brian McGuire told The Hill.”
What does he mean push for it?
They have the votes in both Houses, just do the vote.
Day One of the new Congress they need to pass the repeal.
“Medical devise” is loaded with graft and corruption. For example, my neighbor needed anti-embolism stockings $15 - $50 at amazon or walgreens A little digging online revealed that if he got them by prescription, Medicare pays $250 for them.
So this is an obvious and I hope easy place to start chipping away at the Obamadoggle. Also a good place to reveal these scams in a very clear way that even dems can understand.
Perhaps Mitch can have a Boondoggle of the Week website or presser.
Like others, you state the obvious.
The full repeal is to send a message.
Make Obama veto it.
Ya gotta make the move first...get all the remaining Dems on record in the new term as for it, so leading in to 2016, as prices go up and doctors become scarce, it’s clear who is responsible.
I agree. After sending a bill for full repeal attack some of the back parts individually, and before the term ends, write a bill of true reform and send it to his desk, which undoes the main damage and reforms the system in a positives way. (essentially, the repeal/replace). He signs it (unlikely), Hallelujah. He vetoes it, the ‘16 candidate picks up that bill and runs to victory.
Dude, cut the bluster.
Everyone here knows the damn thing isnt going to be fully repealed with Obama in office.
Dismantle it. Dismantle key parts of it. He likely will still veto them, but each despised piece being repealed will be more potent than sending a full repeal because those hated parts will force him to stand there and defend each provision.
He either has to defend the hated individual mandate or let it go.
Just sending a full repeal of a bill thousands of pages long, isnt going to nearly have the same impact when it is vetoed as sending all of the most publicly despised parts and watching him be the one keeping them in place.
Excellent point.
He can still veto the budget bill, provided they actually pass a budget for the first time in 6 years
So let him. You think he'll relish having to do that? Tuesday's election was a referendum on ObamaCare (IMO). Let him veto, so that the American people can finally see who's really effing up their health care!
Send up the repel. Make Obama veto it and face not only the people but the Democrats who will be getting hammered for him doing it, by association.
Obama can use his veto pen on all the little pieces too.
McConnell is playing politics. He has no intention of repealing this enormous federal taxing scheme.
1000%
