Ted Cruz plans to lead the Republican Senate (moderates afraid!)

You can forget about Mitch McConnell. Ted Cruz has plans to take over… if the Republicans win their Senate majority. After a spell of cooperating with his party during the campaign season, the Post reports, he will elbow his way into de facto leadership.

In an interview at the Hotel Captain Cook here between campaign stops for Sullivan, Cruz made it clear he would push hard for a Republican-led Senate to be as conservative and confrontational as the Republican-led House.

Piggybacking on what House leaders have done, Cruz said the first order of business should be a series of hearings on President Obama, “looking at the abuse of power, the executive abuse, the regulatory abuse, the lawlessness that sadly has pervaded this administration.”

Cruz also would like the Senate to be as aggressive in trying to repeal the Affordable Care Act as the House, which has voted more than 50 times to get rid of the law.

Republicans should “pursue every means possible to repeal Obamacare,” Cruz said, including forcing a vote through parliamentary procedures that would get around a possible filibuster by Democrats. If that leads to a veto by Obama, Cruz said, Republicans should then vote on provisions of the health law “one at a time.”

And when asked whether he would back Sen. Mitch McConnell of Kentucky for Republican leader, Cruz would not pledge his support… ...WaPo

Ah... I see now. Totally missed it ;-) Even when I went back and re-read it a second time. But hey, I'm old...

Either way, ol' L. Ron's dead. As is Tom Cruise's brain.

Actually LRon’s ‘Theta’ is probably inhabiting Tom’s body guiding him so it’s all perfectly self consistent! ;)

This is and has been one of the reasons Mitch and John are working on a 1 yr.gov’t funding measure for the lame duck (in the backroom and with the administration)....to prevent a TC coalition using the power of the purse. Don’t want to risk shutting down the beast.

He’s also an evil conservative. See, the evil of his conservatism outweighs the fact that he seems to have no RINO in him. And I know it’s a sacrifice but I ‘feel’ that it’s a lesser evil... Ergo I must support him no matter what.

Cruz doesn’t want to wait for 2016 to fight Obama? Is that fair? Can’t we just fix Obamacare? What about the good parts?

Heh heh.

I love that guy. Cruz for president. No one else even comes close.

I agree. Recently saw Trump on Judge Janene, and a Cruz/Trump ticket might be a consideration.

“> as conservative and confrontational as the Republican-led House”

Huh? as this last House was? Try as conservative as the 108th congress, the one that defied Bush and the RINO senate and instead of passing the amnesty bill Bush tried to force on them, they passed HR4437 - a conservative anti-illegal immigration bill that would’ve saved the country.

Be conservative like that Ted and I’m with you!

“Coups in both the new Republican Senate and Republican House leaderships would be gigantic steps in restoring some faith to those institutions”

Here, here! Cry baby has got to go, McCarthy too. And he’s my rep.

Reagan today would not be elected

But a moderate war hero like McCain would. Got it.

Reagan would have a difficult time getting past the GOPe, but he would have no trouble communicating with the voters. The GOPe is the biggest impediment to a conservative running for anything, ask Allen West.
