Ed Gillespie continues to close the gap on Mark Warner in the Virginia Senate race, causing Real Clear Politics to move the race from “Likely Dem” to “Leans Dem.” Virginia is currently the only Senate race in that category, which suggests it’s the GOP’s best chance to stage a substantial upset on election night.

John Warner was an accidental Senator in Virginia. He had been beaten in the primary by Dick Obenshain, who died in a plane crash during the campaign in which he would have become the winner. John Warner came back as the runner up and with the celebrity of his then wife, Elizabeth Taylor, he was constantly in the news. He won and has continued to win, although he shed Ms. Taylor along the way.

This is John Warner, who also deserves a poke in the nose:

If Warner lost, I probably wouldn’t be able to eat or sleep for a week, because I wouldn’t be able to stop laughing! LOL

As I said, if that happens, the Dems are looking not at a wave, but a Tsunami!

Honestly, I believe a great candidate with funding and organization could have defeated Warner. He has been nothing but a rubber stamp for the 0-Tard. It’s like the G0P gave up on this one before it started.

In my mind the key here isn’t so much that the GOP might pick up an unexpected VA seat, but rather it is a reflection of the national political wind sock.
The headwinds faced by dems in competitive races will be strong throughout.
Probably enough to overcome the margin of fraud.
The fact that our chances in Iowa and colorado are so good is a very solid indicator of how things are going.
If we don’t lose Kansas or Georgia then I’d say we end up with a 54-46 majority.
And don’t be surprised in Manchin switches parties in the aftermath.

Nothing like that good old fashioned statism. It washes down the Metamucil better than Geritol, and actually wipes your butt, unlike regular diapers.

“I have no problem with third parties, IF the rule is that 50% of the votes are required to win the general election. Then the third party is not a spoiler.”

I agree. That should be a nationwide requirement.

If Cantor was still running Comstock and Gillespie would both lose. Brat helped the ticket.

Cuccinelli is a conservative. He energized the base despite the GOPe’s sabotage.

I just dont see him winning by that large, if he does win. Its within margin of error now and has been closing.

I live in the DC suburbs portion of VA. Cuccinelli lost the DC suburbs 62% to 33%. The DC suburbs made up 16% of the total vote. McAwful won the Tidewater area 54% to 40%, which also made up 16% of the total vote.

Cuccinelli's strength was in Central Western VA, which he won 56% to 34%. CWV made up 22% of the total vote.

I was a delegate at the GOP convention that nominated Gillespie who won a little less than 60% of the votes. Gillespie is not a favorite of conservatives or the Tea Party. It will be interesting to see what the Rep turnout is for Gillespie. He doesn't excite too many people. He is a vanilla candidate who lacks passion or a vision. His formulaic approach to the campaign is no surprise. He is running it like the political consultant he was.

I would be surprise if his losing margin is below 10%.

And [r] senator Warner is really chummy with the dem-warner too.
= = = = = = = = = = = =
Yes, Mr Taylor(sic) put out a statement saying VA ‘needs’ Mark Warner...that endorsement alone should be enough to sink the RINO who considered himself a Centrist/Moderate before it was popular.

I get the impression that M Warner is running for the first time when he is relating ALL he will be doing if he gets ‘rehired’....WTF has he been doing the last 6 years?
He should get retired and though it hurt I had to vote for Gillespie...another RINO ala John Warner - maybe not as bad but another GOPe.. Pretty bad when a person runs as a ‘clone’ of you and YOU turn against him.....

I live in northern Virginia also. I’m in the 8th District, where used car salesman ‘Rat Don Beyer has raised over $2.5 million, while his GOP challenger, a young promising Black man named Micah Edmond, has raised only $82,000.

Capitalism for Beyer; socialism for the rest of us. Scumbag.

I went to Mass at the wonderful St. Athanasius church on Route 7 beyond Tysons Corner, and drove the back roads over to the junction of the Beltway and Old Georgetown Pike. The ‘Rat candiate in the 10th district, Foust, was clearly winning the yardsign battle in this area (mostly $800k+ homes). I sure hope that Barbara Comstock wins.

I hear that a true ‘Rat scumbag, Gerry Connolly, may be in trouble in the 11th district. I don’t understand why any thinking, breathing human being could ever vote for him.
