A black Louisiana State Senator explains to his black brothers and sisters why he switched his party affiliation to Republican [see my comments].
You'll think he subscribed to a Best of FR feed, except that nobody on FR has ever put together all of these if-you are-black-in-fact-if-you're-an-American reasons to be a Republican instead of a Democrat so simply and eloquently in such a tight capsule.
I think you'll enjoy hearing what Elbert Guillory has to say.
Elbert Guillory, a Louisiana attorney and member of the Louisiana State Senate. Born in 1944.
A Republican who became a Democrat to run as a candidate for the Louisiana state house. In 2013, he switched his party affiliation back to Republican on the day he received a Frederick Douglass award.
Raised by divorced parents. Father, a Roman Catholic and a bootlegger. Mother, a Baptist and school teacher. Navy vet. Aspired to be a physician. Attended a Baptist theology school but was never ordained. Roman Catholic. Expelled from historically black Southern University because he wrote an editorial for the school newspaper referring to Dem US Senator (LA) Allen Ellender as a "lunatic". B.A. from historically black historically black Norfolk State University. J.D. from Rutgers.
Well, this morning I saw an anti-Michelle Nunn (GA Senate) commercial featuring an elderly black man who spoke his (and FR's) mind to his black brothers and sisters. Photo: Michelle Nunn. These people don't care about you. Their policies prove it. You are nothing but a vote to them. Think! Do not vote for these people [photo Nunn].
The ad was paid for by Free At Last PAC. Click. That's the guy from the ad. His name is Elbert Guillory.
Free At Last PAC summary? American black(s) telling other American blacks that "Democrat policies intentionally place and keep black and other Americans perpetually subordinate and dysfunctional, and they've done so and do so my making you reliant on government assistance for everything. Think! Join the Republican Party. From its formation, through emancipation, through Constitutional Amendments, through Jim Crow, through Civil Rights, the Republican party cared about you and the Democrats didn't. Democrats and government dependence makes a little more sense when you think about it, doesn't it."
He must really enjoy the conversation at Thanksgiving dinner with his relatives. :-)

One has to wonder if he switched to Democrat to get elected becasue he knoew he would be Destroyed by the Dem machine....
Fredrick Douglas was an amazing American, he is a very interesting read and one part of american history that is hidden from us because he is so empowering, especially Americans with African Ancestry.
Wow! Very powerful...
That was a great presentation.
He covered all the bases IMO.
Speechless. Nothing more can be said.
THIS guy figured it out...and it ain’t privileged information
bflater

I don't know that I would have a Thanksgiving dinner conversation with him. I may simply listen to him talk.
Listening to him relate his personal history should keep me occupied for several hours.
Listening to him describe his mountaineering experiences would be good for Thanksgiving and New Years' dinners (a black, outspoken Republican who is both a State Senator and a serious mountaineer . . . I smell a sitcom pilot somewhere in there).
Hope the GOP listens.
God Bless him. He makes you feel positive that things can turn around. He’s a wonderful person and his family are truly blessed to have such a dedicated and honest man in their family. Now, he would have made a wonderful president ( Mr. Guillory) versus the fraud that we have now.
If Guillory isn’t behind a mic at the 2016 GOP convention, somebody has some ‘splaining to do.
No doubt about it.
You know, I get sort of weepy watching a guy like this bear his soul. He’s one of the good guys to be sure.
He gets it as well as any of us do with what he addressed. Love it!
An excellent piece, but the comments are interesting, too. Always the Rat fools lurking to twist, misrepresent, etc.
Wow I got a chill at the end when he referred to the “author”.
Wow! Thanks so much for posting. Will definitely be sharing this one.
May He keep and protect Sen Guillory.
He has you, you think jiminy did he sum everything up or what? Then he takes his index finger . . . and like you, I got a chill.
Interesting fact. I believe Frederick Douglas hid out at our very own Hillsdale College during the war. There was a bounty on him and the college was his refuge. An amazing institution.
