Sen. Ted Cruz on Thursday took a thinly veiled shot at Jeb Bush, saying that Republicans will ensure a Hillary Clinton presidency if they run a more moderate candidate in 2016.
Appearing on CNBC, the Texas Republican and tea party favorite was asked about Bush and said that presidential candidates from the partys establishment wing like Arizona Sen. John McCain in 2008 and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney in 2012 consistently fail to turn out millions of voters.
[I]f we run another candidate in the mold of a Bob Dole [in 1996] or a John McCain or Mitt Romney, we will end up with the same result, which is millions of people will stay home on Election Day, which is what happened for all three of them, the senator said. And if we run another candidate like that, Hillary Clinton will be the next president. Clinton, the former secretary of state, is widely considered to be the front-runner for the Democratic nomination if she chooses to run.
Cruz, himself a potential 2016 candidate, was initially asked what he thought of a potential Jeb Bush candidacy. Bush, who has staked out some centrist positions on issues like immigration reform, is openly considering a bid and has some support from the more moderate wing of the Republican Party.
Jeb has not declared his candidacy. I like Jeb. Im a fan of Jeb Bushs. Im going to let him decide if hes running first and let the primary voters make a decision, Cruz said. But I will say this: We need to learn from history, we need to look to history and what works and what doesnt. The senator then went on to make his comments about Dole, McCain and Romney.

Ted knows how to fight. Only Democrats are supposed to know how to fight. Republicans are supposed to “reach across the aisle” to their “colleagues.”
If Hillary is the Democrat choice, I think that the GOP may actually have a chance of winning. I sure hope so.
More Straight Shootin’ From Ted!
Not me.
Depends on the Repub candidate. If a RINO wins the nomination, a disenchanted base will stay home.
S.O.P.
The only Bush brother that has spent his life in the private sector.
'Course it was in the much-maligned banking sector but that doesn't necessarily make him one of the bad guys.
Besides the regular demoncrap voter fraud, a whole slew of people will stay home.
Then it will be Hillary for EIGHT years.
There is one thing none of them are figuring though. Hillary will be one year younger than the oldest person to ever run for the presidency.
Ronald Reagan was 69, Hillary will be 68. And time has not been good to her.
The libs will have a hard time running a bonafide hag, cause they like their candidates to be attractive but not necessarily statesman-like.
Ronald Reagan still had that nice old Hollywood charm about him.
And Hillary is a witch.
But still, if the GOPe succeeds in getting another squish, even with all of Hillary's physical and personal negatives, she would still win.
So, we have to ask ourselves - who are our real friends?
Because friends don't let their friends vote for ANYONE who would give us a witch for president of the United States.
Is Cruz right? Is Bush cut out of the same mold as Romney?
Bush is extremely soft on amnesty. If I recall right, he considers illegal immigration to be an act of love. A corny comment, for sure, but moreso it says exactly how he thinks about illegal immigration.
He has essentially the position of hard line libertarians...borders should not exist. (Can someone please explain to me how “no borders” is a libertarian concept? Does it mean they don’t believe in countries and governments? In one world government? And exactly when in history do they see such a thing taking place given past history?)
He used to support natural marriage and no special rights for homosexuals. No telling where he is now.
He has always supported guns.
He is quasi pro-life (rape, incest, life of mother) and anti fetal stem cell research, but Terry Schiavo could have been been a time when he overruled a judge, and he did not do it.
He wanted to know if judicial candidates believed in God. Like the rest of his family, he attends church.
So, is he another Romney? the above suggests he’s better than Romney. Romney was pro-gay, quasi gun, pseudo life (health of mother), and pro border control.
So, if Cruz meant GOPe, then he’s right about Bush. If he meant the same positions on issues, then he’s close but not quite correct. Bush is better than Romney was.
IMO, Cruz is the answer to the future of the republican party. Either they go with a potential winner or fold their tent and go into history as the party that would not adjust to what is needed for survival. Yes there are other candidates who might be winners but from this next of the woods, I have yet to see the right one(s). Either the rhino’s conform or die.
*blech* Romeny's stance on immigration alone puts him on top of any Bush. Romney was "equal rights" in employment etc, not pro marriage, and didn't even like the idea of civil unions for gays.
On a 10 scale. Bush 1, Romney 5. Full disclosure. I liked Newt.
Egads! How many times do I have to say it. No more Clintons, Bushes, Kennedys, Obamas, yada yada...
Yes, I like Cruz...
My Major Issues are:
Pro God (Romney 1; Bush 1)
Pro Life (Romney 0; Bush 1/2)
Pro Gun (Romney 1/2; Bush 1)
Pro Natural Marriage (Romney 0; Bush 1)
Pro Security (to include borders etc.) (Romney 1; Bush 0)
Romney = 2.5
Bush = 3.5
I know he wasn’t pro life when it came to Terri Shiavo
“IMO, Cruz is the answer to the future of the republican party....”

Absolutely!! Ted Cruz is the right person, at the right time to pull America back from its decline. Let’s hope our fellow conservatives realize the importance of uniting behind Cruz EARLY so 2016 doesn’t become yet another race where conservatives (and poseurs masquerading as conservatives) split the vote and allow a RINO to become the Republican candidate.
