A former aide to President Ronald Reagan wants a handful of Southern states to secede from the union and form a new country named for the late GOP hero.

It may come to a shock to some Alabamians, however, that Douglas MacKinnon's vision of the country known as "Reagan" would initially only include South Carolina, Florida and Georgia. Those three states were chosen, MacKinnon told talk show host Janet Mefferd, due to their population size and natural resources, such as access to the Atlantic Ocean and Gulf of Mexico.

Three southern states succeed and name themselves after a California governor? Life is strange.

He needs to add Texas, at the least.

First War of Independence — we won it.
Second War of Independence — we lost it.
Tie-breaker coming.

I hope he wasn’t thinking Broward and Dade Counties would be part of it, they are New York South.

“He needs to add Texas, at the least.”

Not a good idea as Reagan Nation would have to be contiguous and that means Louisiana.

Floridians bring nothing to the table. It is, however, the only one with substantial fossil fuel assets (oil). Better off dropping it, and heading west.

Louisiana is fine if you cut out the French parishes.

Apparently Texas has too many Mexicans for his taste.

Interesting to think about.

How many irreconcilable differences are there between most of us and liberals, as far as how government is run, how government is structured, how much power government should have, how capitalism works, how our schools should function, etc. etc.

How many of our political/social debates revolve around liberal/conservative splits on how society and government should be operating???

I have thought a split would be something to consider.

The west coast states could be their own country.

Much of the interior of the country could be a separate conservative country.

And then, take the New England states, down to Virginia, and make that a liberal country.

Split up and be done with it. Sometimes I think that would be a good solution to our endless political debates which never seem to get resolved.

Split the country into four quadrants...Mississippi River is the N/S line, then horizontally at the midpoint. Conservative Americans get the NW and SE...Liberal Americans get the NE and SW. Wha’d’ya think? There’s a big duty free store at the big intersection...sort of a District of Columbia type thing. We have separate governments but pay an agreed upon amount to maintain the “Intersection Zone”. I’m willing to consider other split points...heck, I’d give the libs both coasts to make the deal work.

Really. After his first amnesty he basically gave California back to Mexico.

How well I know.

His one great failing was trusting in human nature. Progressive Democrat human nature.

We should never, ever make that mistake again.

It wouldn’t be necessary if the states were left to themselves as originally conceived; and I mean as under the Constitution, not the Articles of Confederation. The federal government acts as a giant insurer against liberal government at the state level.

Why restrict this to the south? Find out how many other states, north, south, east and west that want go get in on this. Could be a bloodless revolution.
