Marianna High School graduate Lamar Wilson will be in Jackson County this weekend to make a symbolic gesture he hopes will stir a spirit of atonement here for a tragedy that played out 80 years ago, culminating a gruesome scene on Jackson Courthouse square. Claude Neal was murdered on Oct. 26, 1934, in a mob attack and subsequently lynched, already dead, from a tree on the Jackson Courthouse square.
Wilson explained in a summary of the historic event that he believes it is being swept under and forgotten by todays generations and that young people of the future may never realize it happened and therefore never learn from it. That, he believes, is a tragedy in itself.
Neal was a black man accused of killing and raping a white woman who lived near him.

I can’t believe no one sees the irony.
Neal’s death is not the one being swept under the rug. In fact it has been highly publicized.
The innocent woman who was raped and murdered is the one whose death has really been swept under the rug.
Is this a make believe path? Will what he is doing or what he is going to say be fact checked by any media?
The left will stop at nothing to keep the hate alive. The worst part is MANY are buying into it.
Apparently there is no current wide spread racism going on so they have to drum up hatred and pretend this stuff is happening currently.
When, or should I say how, is doing this going to improve race relations?
In the bible book of Esther, the ten sons of Haman were slain and then later were hanged. I guess Esther wanted to make sure they were dead, dead.
YB, I guess someone knows the path Neal ran to escape. If they don’t, they will just make up one.
