House Republicans are on track to make gains this cycle, but two weeks before Election Day, its still unclear whether the party will procure a wave of double-digit gains in their quest to extend the majority.
Members of Congress and operatives alike note this is a toxic time for Democrats on the ballot that should result in huge losses for the presidents party. But a race-by-race evaluation of the House map shows Republicans are more likely in a position to pick up a net of around six seats this cycle.
After two successful cycles for House Republicans, the playing field confines the upper limits of pickups that can be had, said Brock McCleary, a Republican pollster.
Public surveys show President Barack Obamas unpopularity, as events in the Middle East and Ebola on the home front are dragging down Democrats coast to coast. House Democrats are defending more seats than Republicans this cycle.
But this midterm is shaping up to be one of the most perplexing in recent memory. Both parties are on offense, and both parties are on defense. In private polling, dozens of races are too close to call. Given the unpredictability, its also possible the next 14 days could exacerbate Democratic losses.
Heres why most political operatives estimate Republican will have a net gain in the mid-single digits:

I am hopeful for significant gains, but it’s very touch-and-go in a number of races. Many are not shaping as expected.
Maybe the Ditch Turtle can come out and diss the Tea Party some more?
Depends on what one expected.
Significant gains will send he message to th GOPe that they don’t need conservative votes. I prefer a squeaker if not an outright loss.
They promised Amnesty.We lose regardless.
Doesn’t matter much if the GOP does not win the Senate. Even then, it probably doesn’t matter that much either.
I look at all of the Republican “amnesty whores” running for various offices i Arizona, and there is almost nobody to vote for.
This is really one of my sticking points with the, “Get out and vote rino at any cost,” crowd. Can anyone point to any effort at all the GOPe has made to patch bridges within the party? I guarantee, you will see McConnell do more to work with Democrats than he has done with his own party. You can’t win putting a losing team on the field. It’s time to rebuild.
Just set aside some principle. What could be easier?
Hey.......You aren’t one of those...you know...evil purists that demands people actually follow the constitution are you? CuZ that don’t play well with lotsa folks round these parts.
Try telling FR’s cheshires that. They know better. And the 30 year ‘success’ of their methodology is there for all to see.
That darn Constitution........you try washing it out, and scrubbing it out.........and you still end up with “Ring Around the RINO”
Well it’s a living document. Thats why euthanasia is such a front burner issue for the Naz...I mean Democrats.
As I look at the race, I would expect a Republican wave based on all that has gone wrong under the Socialists (Dems)
However I have to face reality and realize the voters are not the same as they were in my early lifetime.
Demographics are against conservatives and it will get worse in the future.
The Socialists get a majority of the Black , Jewish, Asian, Hispanic and Women's vote.
That doesn't leave much for the conservatives to get because they seem to be in a minority position.
Having said all that, I believe the Socialists have so screwed up, that the innefective dumb Republicans will take the senate back, and surprisingly get 8 more seats - Tom
I have to admit, I was with them until this election cycle, and this cycle is strange to me. For the first time since I could vote, Carter vs. Ford, I don’t care how this election turns out. I could probably go back and find arguments I made here at FreeRepublic against not voting for Romney. Don’t get me wrong, I didn’t vote for him, I voted against Obama, but you know the story. I point this out to show why the GOP should start paying attention to their base. They are losing us slowly but surely.
Glad you saw the light. I voted for McCain to get Palin and I regret it immensely. All we both did was help empower more liberals.
If they have no conservatism/principles, they will not get my vote. If the country burns, it’s all on the GOP for running the people they do.
How can this be?
All House members are up for reelection and there are more Republican members than Democrats.
Sounds like the writer is FOS.
The Senate seat in GA should not even be in doubt. But that’s what happens when you nominate a lackluster candidate for the GOP which we have in David Perdue. Its a toss up as to whether he or Michelle Nunn have the worst personality. They both have all the warmth and charm of a brick.
