FERGUSON, Mo. Darren Seals experienced waves of disbelief and anger after Michael Browns death, but two months later he has found a way to channel his emotions: Focus on changing an elected leadership that seems deaf to the concerns of African American residents like him.
So on Nov. 4, the 27-year-old assembly line worker and hip-hop musician from a deeply Democratic community plans to take bold action. He says he will vote for a white Republican.
Just because theyve got the D next to their name, that dont mean nothing, said Seals, who lives a few blocks from where a police officer shot Brown. The world is watching us right now. Its time to send a message of our power.
Many African Americans in Ferguson and across St. Louis County, angered over their leaders response to the fatal shooting, say they will be taking their outrage to the ballot box and voting against a Democratic Party that has long been their automatic choice.
They are focusing on the St. Louis county executives race, which typically centers on matters such as the budget and sanitation but this year has become caught up in the unrest.

I live in SW St Louis Co. Maybe, just maybe, and yes, I will say maybe again...There are people that finally see that there is a political party that gains and prospers when the people whom they claim to “stand for” are nothing more than pawns and worse.
This city has been under Dem rule for decades.
We'll see, but I see this as a potential positive.

They better be careful. Barry and his ‘RATS will shut down their EBT cards and Obama “foams”.
This man, Darren, works and is also attempting to have a music career. Most of the black people I know work. Two own their own businesses. They make more than I do and pay more in taxes, too. I know a couple more who are genuinely disabled, to the point where I would not take on their medical/physical burden no matter what pittance (and it is a pittance) they get from the government.
Where I live, it is 99% white and we have 8% of those on EBT.
I hate carrying the slackers as much as anyone, but I don’t assume that all blacks are on the dole or all gimmedats are black.
Give this young man and his ilk credit for waking up.
Isn’t that something. He wasn’t the only person on the right to fall for it. It’s amazing how people saw Obola in the day, as a bold new future. Gag me.
I’ve seen so many bright lights go out. It’s really sad.
I wasn’t aware of that, or had forgotten it.
The problem with pegging people in the 90s, was that they got fixated on the Clintons and didn’t like them. You saw that and extrapolated out they were solid, because so many didn’t see the Clintons as bad.
Then after the Clinton were out of the White House, these people didn’t have that to focus on anymore, and all of a sudden you found out they were squishy on a lot of subject.
J. C. Watts may never have been quite as solid as I thought he was in the day. He may have been pretty good on most stuff, but a vote for Obola really causes me to think I had it wrong.
There was just too much on Obama out there, and nothing that showed him to be a great leader. No experience, gifted everything...
Thanks for the mention.
I agree.
You know, I feel like the Republicans take us for granted, but until recently is was nowhere near as blatant as it has been for Blacks.
You’d think they would revolt, but they have no home either. They’re like us in a sense. I just wish they could grasp our ideology.
You’re right, Republicans take us for granted too. If blacks in Ferguson really wanted to make a statement they would form a Tea Party Chapter. Now THAT would rock the boat...
It seems to my these folks aren’t buying into the race thing right now.
If they were, they couldn’t possibly vote right. I think these guys are fed up with the absurdity they’re seeing right now. At least I would hope so.
Hopefully this will grow and more Blacks will jump off the plantation mentality.
LOL, that’s for sure.
Reverend Jones just might want to read an accurate history of the Democratic Party. He might find out that they aren't as nice and good as he thinks.
What is the allure of black men becoming “activists”, to the “hip hoppers” ?
On Twitter during the riots in Ferguson, I noted dozens of men associated with hip hop, fanning the flames, making incendiary comments, making veiled threats, etc.
It’s like moths, to a flame.
They may not vote Republican—they may not vote at all.
Believe it when I see it.
Watts voted for him because he was black.
