Song and video at link.
Have lots of Kleenex handy.
That’s every bit as sad as the last Johnny Cash album.
Or Ernie Harwell’s farewell address at Comerica Park when it was clear he was not going to see another season.
Wow incredible. I don’t know what to say, on one hand it’s beautiful but strange at the same time. “I’m not going to miss you” I assume because he has Alzheimer’s, but isn’t that sort of making fun of himself?
For those who aren’t aware of his early career, the book and documentary “The Wrecking Crew” really pays tribute to Campbell’s skill which made him one of the most-requested guitarists on the west coast, and paved the way for his solo career. By playing on all those hit records his musical talent influenced countless people who might not have liked his later country style as much. The book quotes one of his colleagues saying in essence “if there was ever a person possessed of too much talent, that person is Glen Campbell”.
His last album was very good too. Wishing him well on his journey to "A Better Place". https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JMh78jF-fMQ
>>”I’m still here but yet I’m gone/ I don’t play guitar or sing my songs,” <<
That line just brought tears to my eyes... :(
Did Campbell write the song? If it said he did I missed it.
BTTT!
Thanks for posting.
Tear jerker.
Thanks for posting this.
I will always remember, “Hi, I’m Glen Campbell”.
I never realized til recently how much Campbell did without us knowing. As part of the Wrecking Crew he put made so many influential songs not credited to him at all.
Ah yes! The Rhinestone Cowboy! Awesome.
I remember his Wichita Lineman album and a song he wrote called “Fate of man”. Lot’s on insight in it also.
She raised four children by herself.
And helped in raising her grandchildren too.
She was with us for the better part of 85 years.
Then she started leaving us, and finally left us at the age of 89.
Those last few years before she left, she wondered if we would still be okay after she left. We all assured her we would be.
The last few years were not great for her, not for us. But, we wanted her with us forever, no matter what condition she was in. She had other ideas, and left us in April of this year.
I still can’t believe she’s gone, but I believe that she’s still looking after us. Her mind is whole again.
Damned monitor...why does it fog up so much when I watch these types of things. <sniffle>
Wow. Thanks for sharing. Hauntingly beautiful song.
That is a brutally beautiful supremely sad thing. My respect for Glen Campbell has never been so strong.
Very powerful and sad at the same time. Alzheimer’s is hell on not only the sufferer, but the caretaking family members.
A comforting thought, though, is his perception that the partner himself/herself will be spared some of the "missing" that goes along with that sad and loving goodbye.
Bookmarked.
I can’t watch it, not allowed to cry right now (just had brain surgery).
Two of the best people in my world have Alzheimer’s, my parents. Sad as hell. And yet still they are a joy and they still love and enjoy something every day.
It is my hope that Glenn Campbell and his effort to get us all used to Alzheimers and to treat people with it better will be a huge success. Alzheimers is in your family or coming to it soon.
Gd bless him for using his fame to remove the shame and stigma of this disease, which is not the patients’ fault and nothing to be ashamed of. Treat anyone with Alzheimer’s the same as you would a young person with developmental differences: still use humor, be warm, be caring. And get help.
If you are alone caring for someone, get help online and in RL, people to sit with your loved one so you get out regularly. And if you know someone who is a caregiver, please give them some breaks.
Bookmarked for the wife later.
