Madam Secretary, CBS’ 100 million dollar Hillary infomercial, wasn’t doing too well with younger viewers to begin with.
You would think that 60 Minutes with its senescent cast of droners would have less younger viewers than Madam Secretary, but dont count out the Hillary magic.
The current ratings show that Madam Secretary lost 4 million 60 Minutes viewers and lost half of its younger 18-49 viewers. Thats the demo prized by advertisers and Madam Secretary is going to have trouble staying on the air if it cant get them to tune in.
Younger voters are also an obvious target for the Hillary 2016 campaign which is what Madam Secretary is really an ad for. Thats why CBSs version of Hillary Clinton is being played by a woman twenty years younger than her.
When your demographics are older than 60 Minutes, you know your TV show and your campaign are in big trouble.
Now it’s doing even worse with the handful of younger viewers it still hadn’t alienated.
The latest ratings show that Madam Secretary’s 2nd episode is down to a 1.4 rating among the demo, viewers 18-49, down from 2.0.
Up against the premiere of the Simpsons and Once Upon a Time, which had demo ratings of 3.9 and 3.4, Madam Secretary performed as miserably as Hillary did as Secretary of State.
The overall series has lost 2 million viewers with its 2nd episode. That doesn’t look very promising. Its overall ratings aren’t catastrophic yet, but CBS is obsessive about retaining younger viewers. It already does well with older viewers.
Madam Secretary can’t afford to keep losing viewers 18-45 or it’s toast. It’s already drawn down to Good Wife and CSI level ratings in the demo. If it keeps falling beyond that, it hits Blue Bloods territory. Any further and it’s gone.
By way of comparison, Scorpion, CBS’ new drama, pulled in a 3.20 demo. NCIS New Orleans debuted with a 2.50 in the demo.
Robin Williams’ Crazy Ones got the ax after a season finale that pulled in a 1.30 in the demo. Hostages was canceled after dropping below 1.00 in the demo. Intelligence was canceled after a 1.20 in the demo.
Madam Secretary is performing with younger viewers like a show that’s been on the air for five years. At best. And that’s not a good thing.
The question is how much money is CBS willing to lose to promote Hillary Clinton?
Bonus: Diplomad’s review of Madam Secretary
The question is how much money is CBS willing to lose to promote Hillary Clinton?
Well, CBS will bend over backwards to help the liberals anyway they can. Money don’t matter. Maybe they get cash from HRC campaign fund.
Maybe a guest appearance could help with the ratings. They could perhaps use such rising stars as Valerie Jarrett...
The wife was really PO’d the other night when the DirecTV guide was listing some other show that she watches. When she clicked on it, this was the show that was on. Sounded to me as though they were using some other show to lure people in to watching this one hour Hillary Clinton commercial.
Change the name to “Madam PIAPS” and see what happens.
The missus & I watched the premier and the next episode. Liked the premier, but found the next episode to be a snoozer. They tried to ‘fix’ Benghazi and came up sorely lacking. Also, the schmuck who played the Marine 4-star in the situation room NEEDS TO LEAVE!!!! He looked like Joe Shit the Ragman in my beloved uniform. And not one of those A-Holes asked about the Marines!!!!
Last night's ratings should be interesting because the first episode was truly awful.
Anybody else remember a show some years ago, called “Commander in Chief”, with Geena Davis as the first woman president?
That show was on the air, if I recall correctly, in 2005 or 2006, leading up to the next presidential election cycle. And many thought that show was a Hillary Clinton infomercial.
That show didn’t last an entire season, if I recall correctly.
Sounds like Madam Secretary about a woman secretary of state is in danger of the same fate.
It was execrable.
When the character playing Hillary actually winked at one of her adoring sycophants (it was a pathetic attempt to demonstrate confidence), you knew this show was doomed.
Football way overran its timeslot last week, so everything was at least a half hour late.
When does the Benghazi episode air, with Hillary hiding under her desk, and Obama having homo sex in the WH living quarters while Americans are killed? Title: “What Difference At This Point Does It Make!?”
If it was sunday night on cbs the football game could have backed everything up by finishing late
At some point CBS shareholders need to demand answers about why their money is being urinated away on programming like this.
Its already drawn down to Good Wife
I was only mildly interested in The Good Wife to begin with but Sticking ValJar on it lost me. They had her doing a favor for the chief of staff of the Republican Governor (a governor they depict as a womanizer and ex con) as if they were of the same party. It was stupid and made no sense to the storyline.
CBS’ publishing company advanced Hillary $8 million on her new book.
Think that wasn’t a campaign contribution ?
Just don’t go up against Red Reddington.
I still don’t think she will run, at least as the immaculated candidate of the party. Too much baggage at a time where the Dems are struggling to find some clean air to breathe. She may give it the old college try again but there are plenty of other relatively clean and healthy Marxists waiting in the wings. Guv. Moonbeam for example. JMHO!
The show is a gratuitous BJ for the hildebeeste’s upcoming campaign. The analogies are not even thinly veiled, they are attempting to rehabilitate the wicked bitch of the west wing.
Oh did a few of the staff get gunned down by Islamic hordes? Just wondering how you perform as miserably as Hillary Clinton did as Secretary of State.
