No, FR is not trying to quash satire. However, it should be clearly labeled as such in the title. Some people seem to think it's great trickling our readers into falling for satire. It's not. A lot of people come to FR and scan the headlines clicking on articles of interest. If they're not familiar with the author or source, they may be misled and may even pass it on to others. No thanks.
If you post satire, please label it as "satire' in the title.
Thanks
Thank you,thank you,thank you.
.
Today’s satire is tomorrow’s Democratic policy position, but it is wise to label the satire, in case RINOs are reading and looking for guidance themselves.
I think there should be a seperate section just for Laz. 8~ )
I know what you are saying and I used to agree with it because I love a good satire that almost fools me until I get into the middle of it. But, I have discovered that there are a lot of people whose brains are just more analytical/logical/left brain
call it what you like... and find it difficult to process absurdity and see the humor at the same time. Instead of laughing at it, it just makes them angry. So
this is not a slam on those people. It is just a way we can celebrate our diversity! (That last sentence was satire.)
No, it’s an outright lie.

Same with posting. Some folks just don’t get it so I add that “</satire” at the end when it is.
I guess I disagree a little about this. I guess we’re referring to post by John Semmens. I think he always labels his post appropriately - but I have still taken the bait on occasions. I haven’t seen any articles (maybe I missed them) that weren’t labeled. I love John Semmens’ posts and would hate to see them moved or removed. He has forced me to look before I leap and to start to analysis and “think” and isn’t that part of it?
The problem is John Semmens posts “Satire” in a number of places.
It is more of an indictment of so many readers of his posts that they can’t read the “satire” tags.
Maybe those who are tripped up by his posts and miss the satire tags are the ones who should be cautioned.
No harm in including it in the title.
You assume those people read more than just the title.
How many times have you seen people ask a question that was answered in the second paragraph of a link.
And that’s not satire.
>>Oh, no.
Certainly there is no “LOOK AT ME!” factor involved.
As if.<<
He’s pretty clear it is satire. And the fact people take it as fact indicates just how good his satire is.
I would go as far as to say ALL posts on FR are “LOOK AT ME!”
Even yours — and mine.
I totally disagree. I’m not a fan of satire or any other mode of communication that is not straightforward and possibly misleading.
Kinda reminds me of Tasty Wheat.
Are you trying to collapse the known universe?
I think there's some sport in letting FReepers (including myself) discover that something they're reading is "having them on" as the Brits say. I personally enjoy having one put over on me every once in a while as long as it isn't something grotesque like a false reporting of some kind of tragedy or death.
I guess that since he's advertising his stuff here without a fee maybe he ought to comply with the owner's wishes.
If he wants to complain about the free advertising maybe he should speak up.
If the trigger was the recent Holder to JPMorgan story, that wasn't a Semmens satire but Semmens is guilty by association when his next story pops up.
Maybe we need a Satirist Laureat designation, bestowed on those who have exceled at the fine art over their entire career. < /sarc >
