More Americans moved to Texas in recent years than any other state: A net gain of more than 387,000 in the latest Census for 2013. And Austin was the fastest growing major city.
Jobs is the No. 1 reason for population moves, with affordable housing a close second.
"It take two things to draw people inland in big numbers: jobs and housing affordability," said Nela Richardson, chief economist for the real estate broker Redfin.
Texas and other heartland states have two advantages that translate into affordable housing: Plenty of cheap land around cities and easy regulations that enable developers to build quickly.
Nine of the top 10 fastest growing U.S. metro areas last year were ones where homes were more affordable than the U.S. average, according to Redfin. Many were in Texas, Oklahoma, Utah and other heartland states. Five Texas cities -- Austin, Houston, San Antonio, Dallas and Fort Worth -- were among the top 20 fastest growing large metro areas.
Some smaller Texas metro areas grew even faster. In oil-rich Odessa, the population grew 3.3% and nearby Midland recorded a 3% gain.

Sadly a LOT of Locusts are running away from their own “successful” liberal policies...
And they are heading towards Texas...
Exactly - the state is turning blue-er by the day.
...very true !
“with affordable housing a close second”
I know it is relative to a region, but wages have not kept up with house prices when all the Kalifornians and Yanquis move here after selling their houses for a cool half mill to a million they bought for $150K some years ago. Prices are outpacing salary adjustments by a wide margin.
From the north or the South?...........
WE aren’t.
I absolutely abhor what is happening to my small Texas town, we now have rush hour nearly 24 hours a day . . . Parasites, STAY HOME!!!
Sad fact but Northen sleaze are moving all over the South....99% are screaming libs.
Good news is they dont find a welcome mat after they open their big mouths.
Here in S Florida they swarm in like flies....as if S Fl didnt have enough problems.
I’m going to stay in Northern Colorado as long as I can, then go up into Wyoming, rather than Texas.
They’re going to ruin the state.
Let us hope and pray that the newcomers are all conservatives leaving their liberal hell holes for better pastures...........
Sadly a LOT of Locusts are running away from their own successful liberal policies...
*************
They always bring their liberal disease with them and contaminate a healthy host.
A niece in Madison WI posted the photo today of a moving van in front of their house, loading them out for a move to NE TX. They had previously lived in the San Antonio area when her husband was in the USAF and he took his first civilian job in WI. Now it appears they are a small part of a larger statistic that sees them returning to TX. Both are University of Oklahoma grads with family in that area that are looking forward to them being closer with the grandkids.
Lubbock too!
Dallas/Ft. Worth are OK. The Cowboys & NASCAR
Houston just sucks!! - No Vacancy -
Just Joking... Austin is reserved for all liberals.
And they are heading towards Texas...
The fact that the Texas legislature only meets biannually is a blessing. It takes longer for bad ideas to become codified.
I hear Sandpoint Idaho is a good place to be safe - if you can handle the weather. The job situation probably isn’t so hot however.
