What’s Holding Back Electric-Car Sales?

Common sense? The ability to do math?

60-100 miles on a charge? Gee, that’s not inconvenient. Does the author realize how fast you can rack up 60 miles, just running errands?

While not having to purchase gas you will need to replace that $10,000.00 battery.

Too expensive, they lack distance, lack of charging stations, and most of all IT ISN”T GREENER. Electricity has to be produced from something and that is usually oil

Electric cars aren't selling nearly as well as many predicted. Why is that?

Because we have a serious shortage of quality people doing the predicting.

What’s holding sales back?

How about expense, range, charging times, charging stations, styling, and performance?

And I say that as one who’d love to have an electric car that didn’t generate more commuting worries than having to drive through Obama’s old “community organizing” neighborhood.

“a high price tag, misconceptions about the cars”

1. High prices.
2. The misconceptions about the car are generally higher expectations that what can be delivered
3. Finally, the law of thermodynamics may figure in here for the smarter people in that you can’t get something for nothing, or even break even. This means that the same energy (more actually) used to charge the car up is the equivalent of the gasoline that would have been used.

ineffective government incentives.

Ah yes, unlike the effective ones which they want to use, the ones that begin with, "You are hereby required to...." and end with "...punishable by fine, imprisonment or both."

They’re perfect, but a little pricey for tooling around Beverly Hills. I suspect they don’t work so well in Minnesota, the Rockies or Phoenix.

I wish that more people realized that an electric car will likely NOT help them fight the dreaded global warming.

Why?

Because the electricity to recharge the batteries in an electric car, in many places, comes from coal fired power plants.

While the car itself is pollution free, if the energy needed to charge it up comes from a fossil fuel operated power plant, a good liberal has NOT done anything to save us from global warming and reduce greenhouse gases.

Actually, if we suddenly had millions of electric cars on the road, we would find ourselves far short of needed electric generating capacity.

The capacity which Obama wants to reduce in his zeal to fight global warming and take allegedly gross polluting power plants off line.

Liberals should pick another vehicle besides electric cars to make their case of what we can do to reduce greenhouse gases.

Too expensive. And the car companies lie. They roll in mileage from gas and electric to give a higher MPG rating. Not withstanding of course is the lousy gas mileage when on the gas engine and replacing the batteries every three years or so and recharge stations are practically none existent and in the winter battery life is much lower and you go what, 40 miles on a charge and .....

I've got a Samsung cell phone that suddenly loses power and shuts off...even though it shows that it 85% charged.

Can you imagine driving down the highway when suddenly your car shuts down, although the battery shows that it's almost fully charged?

No thanks. An internal combustion engine is a bit more reliable.
