Strange thing about Flood Wall Street, the financial-district protest that followed the Peoples Climate March: Nobody had much to say about the climate what they came to talk about was capitalism. Stop Capitalism, End Capitalism, Capitalism Kills, the placards read. Kshama Sawant, the socialist Seattle city-council member who funds her crusade against capitalism by being married to a man with Microsoft money, called for a radical, militant movement linking environmental concerns to such traditional socialist enterprises as heavy government intervention into targeted industries, including energy and transportation.
Question: What happened to the environment the last time people with radically anti-capitalist views had access to real power?
The fullest and most comprehensive attempts to impose socialism on a society happened in the twentieth century in the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, the Peoples Republic of China, the Democratic Peoples Republic of Korea, and like-minded enterprises. Communism is what socialists call socialism that they do not want to talk about, but in the interest of fairness I should emphasize that I do not believe that the USSR is what Ms. Sawant et al. have in mind when they talk about socialism. But the USSR wasnt what the Russian revolutionaries had in mind, either, and it probably is not really what Lenin or even Stalin desired. Almost nobody sets out to impoverish, oppress, starve, and murder millions of people, but that is what happened, and that it happened is not a mere coincidence deriving from defects within Russian culture or Maos management style. It probably is not the case that the Russians failed socialism, but that socialism failed the Russians.

The socialist Sawant is now well off - married or divorced. Maybe she could share how she got all that she has. All because of socialism? Don't think so.
Socialism isn’t for her, my friend. It’s for YOU.
It took capitalism to get her to socialism. I wonder what’s next politically for her down the road. What follows socialism?
the socialist holder is gonna work for the evil capitalist firm of jp morgan as a corporate officer for 77 million a year plus bonuses.
This is the history of Socialists. They didn’t originate from the poor.
Notice how the environmental leftists rarely talk about real water and air pollution anymore and instead focus entirely on CO2?
The leftists have always called for more socialist/marxist government control as the cure for pollution (and everything else). Pollution, dont you see, is caused by capitalism.
Then the iron curtain fell and it became irrefutable that the worst polluters in the history of the world were the former communist countries, most of which had become large toxic waste dumps. People generally dont pollute property that they own. People have no such restraint about polluting property that belongs to someone else. Pollution, the world could see, is caused by socialism.
So now the entire focus is CO2, because the United States, having the worlds largest economy, naturally produces the most CO2 per capita. Never mind that CO2 is a trace gas that is necessary for the survival of life on Earth.
This time socialism will work!
Typical elitist. Whatever she gets she deserves because she is superior. Its those inferior people that make a lot of money that trouble her.
Look inside a watermelon and you’ll see a hypocrite.
That was satire
Sounds like it took working on her back to get where she got...
Karl Marx admitted in Das Kapital that the capitalists would have to build the industrial structure before the revolution where the “workers “ would take over, thus admitting that socialism could not build anything lasting of good consequence.
Most of the wealthy 1 percenters today are Leftists/Liberal/Progressive.
I wasn't aware she married (and then separated from) rich , figures. Hey *itch, Karl M says you should redistribute your alimony to me.
“Vote on the left, live on the right”
Older but not dated: read “Coercive Utopians, Social Deception by America’s Power Players”, 1983.
Progressive privileged elitists: some things never change. Bill Buckley IIRC summed up their way of life as “power, ease, and the New York Times with breakfast”.
Socialism is only good for you not us elitists
If true, that surprises me.
Most of the people in the top 1% earn less than $1 million per year and have less than $5 million in assets.
Almost all of them are small business owners or self-employed professionals, especially in medicine and law.
A small minority are corporate executives, and a very small minority are guys like Bill Gates and Mark Zuckerberg.
Their divorce rate is much lower than average, and their religious faith is higher than average.
I agree that the “noisiest” rich guys are Leftists.
But, I'll guess a solid majority of the rest are natural Republicans.
Who runs the GOP?
A bunch of Leftists!
bump
Many of the “Top 1,000” rich people, even Republicans, may be Leftists.
But a clear majority of the “Top 3 Million,” (in other words, the Top 1%) pretty much endorse the values of Conservative governance, not just by the way they vote, but also by the way they live and earn money.
There is a sure fire way to find out.
Use IRS data (for which you need a high security clearance) to get the names and hometown of the 3 million top taxpayers.
Then, cross check that to registered voters, or poll a large sample, then determine the percentage of Republicans versus Democrats.
If someone has done that before, I have not read about it.
PING!
