JUST FOR TODAY
As I go through some "troubles" in my own life, I've worked out this "formula" to help me be a useful and happy person. See if it doesn't work for you! JUST FOR TODAY: I will try to live through this day only, and not tackle my whole life problem at once. JUST FOR TODAY: I will be happy. I will assume to be true what Abraham Lincoln said: "Most folks are as happy as they make up their minds to be". JUST FOR TODAY: I will try to strengthen my mind. I will study. I will learn something useful. I will read something that requires effort, thought, and concentration. JUST FOR TODAY: I will adjust myself to what is, and not try to adjust everything to my own desires. JUST FOR TODAY: I will exercise my soul in three ways: I will do somebody a good turn, and not get found out. I will do at least two things I don't want to do just for exercise. I will not show anyone that my feelings are hurt; they may be hurt, but today I will not show it. JUST FOR TODAY: I will be agreeable. I will look as well as I can, dress becomingly, talk low, act courteously, criticize not one bit, not find fault with anything, and not try to improve or regulate anybody but myself. JUST FOR TODAY: I will have a program. I may not follow it exactly, but I will have lt. I will save myself from two pests: hurry and indecision. JUST FOR TODAY: I will have a quiet half hour all by myself. During this half hour, I will try and get a better perspective of my life. JUST FOR TODAY: I will be unafraid. Especially I will not be afraid to enjoy what is beautiful, and to believe that as I give to the world, so the world will give back to me. CAPT Benny Hornsby, CHC, USN (Ret)

Hiya Ma and a Happy Lord's Day to you and yours!
I'm pretty much done packing, final effort will happen at the end of October or so. I'm enjoying the brisk Fall mornings and rainy/sunny afternoons. Were you affected by the earthquake recently? How's your weather?

Dear God: I ask that no Airman, Coast Guardsman, Marine, Sailor, Soldier, Reservist, National Guardsman, or Merchant Marine feel alone or forgotten.
O Israel, hope in the Lord; For with the Lord there is loving kindness, And with Him is abundant redemption. And He will redeem Israel From all his iniquities.
Psalm 130:7 & 8

I believe that is from Alanon.
I went many years ago and adopted this to my life. As well as the serenity prayer.
It has been a huge help thru the years.

Good evening, Pro...((HUGS))...and a Blessed Lord’s Day to you and yours.
Affected by the quake? No damage, BUT it was the worst I’ve been through, and I grew up in so California and have been thru a couple pretty big ones.
It was 81 miles NW and was a doozy! Most often there is one THUMP, or the ground rolls. This one was rocking and rolling and went on forever...reported as a minute long and 6.24.

Good evening, berdie, and a Blessed Lord’s Day to you and yours.
Thanks for providing more information and reminding us of the Serenity Prayer.
The Serenity Prayer is the common name for a prayer authored by the American theologian Reinhold Niebuhr (18921971). It has been adopted by Alcoholics Anonymous and other twelve-step programs. The best-known form is:
God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
The courage to change the things I can,
And the wisdom to know the difference.

Read: 2 Corinthians 12:7-10
Like many towns, Enterprise, Alabama, has a prominent monument. But the monument in Enterprise is unlike any other. The statue doesnt recognize a leading citizen; it celebrates the work of a beetle. In the early 1900s, this boll weevil made its way from Mexico to the southern US. Within a few years it had destroyed entire crops of cotton, the primary source of revenue. In desperation, farmers started growing another croppeanuts. Realizing they had been dependent on one crop for too long, they credited the beetle with forcing them to diversify, which led to increased prosperity.
The boll weevil is like things that come into our lives and destroy what we have worked hard to accomplish. Devastation resultssometimes financial, emotional, or physicaland it is frightening. We witness the end of life as we know it. But as the people of Enterprise learned, the loss of what is old is an opportunity to discover something new. God may use hardship to get us to give up a bad habit or learn a new virtue. He used a thorn in Pauls flesh to teach him about grace (2 Cor. 12:7-9).
Instead of striving to preserve old habits that are no longer effective, we can view every hardship as an opportunity for God to cultivate a new virtue in us.
O much-tried saint, with fainting heart,
The thorn with its abiding pain,
With all its wearing, ceaseless ache,
Can be the means of priceless gain. Anon.
God often uses bitter experiences to make us better.
In Pauls letter of 2 Corinthians, he repeatedly bares his soul. In the early portions of the letter, he is forced to defend his role as an apostle, while later he shares the heartaches of all he suffered for Christ. Paul concludes by describing how a painful condition (an undefined thorn) is being used as Gods instrument to teach him lessons about grace (12:7-10). This is indeed a very transparent and pain-filled epistle.

Good evening, Proud Marine Mom...((HUGS))...and a Blessed Lord's Day to you and yours.I'm pretty busy working and then caring for my almost 90 year old Mom with mobility issues. It's pretty interesting trying to find out the stuff that can make her more safe while I'm at work.
Marine son doing well? Doesn't he have leave coming soon?
Thank you, Douglas, for your service to America.
