A Russian beverage company said on Thursday that it was acquiring the Pabst Brewing Company, which makes the Pabst Blue Ribbon beer popular with barflies and hipsters alike and other brands like Colt 45 and Old Milwaukee.

The buyer is Oasis Beverages, a Russian brewer and beverages distributor. Backing Oasis is TSG Consumer Partners, an American private equity firm focused on consumer goods, which will take a minority stake.
Pabst Blue Ribbon is the quintessential American brand it represents individualism, egalitarianism and freedom of expression all the things that make this country great, Eugene Kashper, the chairman of Oasis Beverages, said in a statement.

I remember Rolling Rock which was brewed in PA being bought by Budweiser who moved it to New Jersey; closer to the racetracks and the source of horsepiss. They ruined the brand. Try Spotted Cow, brewed in New Glarus Wisconsin. It is actual beer.

Brilliant move at a time when relations with Russia could go south in a big big way. /s
I’d hate to see these brands evaporate due to a potential mistake like this.

But seriously INBEV is buying Miller and now Pabst is being bought by OASIS.
Are there going to be any big national beer makers left that are owned by Americans

I hate to say this, but I think the best word to describe our nation right now is, “Cratering”.
I pray to God that this turns around in 2016. Sadly, I’m not even bothering to hold my breath.
The American public have got to want it. I’m not convinced they have the collective IQ to feel the need.

When I was in my late teens, I tried Colt 45 malt liquor a few times. I can still remember the taste 45 years later.

Back in my drinking days, there was a bar that had penny pitcher night on Sundays. If you bought the first pitcher for full price, the rest of the night you could buy an unlimited number of PBR-Dark pitchers for 1 cent each. That stuff was nasty, but for a starving student it was good enough.

Growing up in Jersey City, back in the 70's I once worked at a Sunoco station, under the NJ Turnpike extension, in a predominantly black neighborhood. Henry the night manager would send me across the street to buy a few cans. Drinking age at the time was 18.
As I recall, it was pretty nasty stuff

I haven’t had a Pabst in probably 40 years. Do they still taste like ass?

They can have Miller and Pabst as far as I’m concerned. We should have given them away a long time ago.

I put Pabst right up there with Rheingold I am not aquainted with Rheingold.
But personally the worst beer I have ever tasted would have to be Weidemanns.
